Pretty nutty indeed. But I'll admit, I have no frame of reference really. So no clue if this is a crazy jump or not. I'd assume it's a sufficiently hefty hike though. But holy mother of mercy, Hive is just jawdroppingly amazing. Wish I had a spare 15k lying around.

are we going to keep being cryptic or at least share which artist and show we're discussing?

If I had 30k... "ballad" would be mine...
If I had 15k that I could blow, I would pick up "Vanity"...

Sorry guys.
Yes, James Jean's preview came out and several large pieces 50 x 88 or so were 48K

Ballad, Vanity, and Hive are my top 3. Love this show. It will be interesting to see how it sells. The prices are a bit aggressive, perhaps, but the waiting list is extremely long, and JJ has some fans with very deep pockets...so either the show is accurately priced and his prices stay where they are...or this show blows up huge and he's the second-coming of Ryden. Such a tough show to judge without any prior fine art shows to go by...but I will say that a few of his absolute best comic book covers have already changed hands in the $25k - $30k range. That certainly is the exception and not the rule...but it should be noted that the largest of those pieces was 22" x 30"...so half the size of the 15k fine art pieces.

2008 was an excellent year. I already feel the 2009 itch coming... so much great art out there.

I HAVE TO BUY IT. But what can I possibly sell to afford it?

The James Jean show and the amount of work that sold at those price points is pretty amazing. Who says there is a problem with the economy......300k plus down like that!! Some really good scores for some folks out there.

i'm thinking that i can't wait to come to LA!
i asked my wife for a matthew feyld piece for my christmas present, and gave her a couple of other options also....
i unwrapped my first present, which was a cool piece by elicser elliot, then another piece by him, and then a piece by matthew feyld.
claire was winding me up before christmas saying that i'd never guess what she'd got me. then i open up the final present and it was a return flight to LA, timed to co-incide with matthew feyld's solo show at thinkspace in march!!! i was blown away and still am. ;D
i believe that she was speaking with the hosner and he planted the seed in her mind - so thanks andrew! i can't wait to get over to LA and check out as many galleries as possible that i've only experienced online before.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Congrats Sven. You'll have a blast. You should be our AM correspondent in LA for that show! How long are you going to be there for? Maybe I'll be back in time for a little artchival meetup.
