I'm thinking that my girlfriend better not get new furniture anytime again, or decide to rearrange it for a few years, because burning a weekend rehanging everything in the apartment so it "made sense" was exhausting.
Looks awesome though. Except, a friend is hooking me up with frames for about 5 unframed canvas/panel pieces...which is rad...but then, I'm going to have to tweak the hanging. Again.

This is sort of art related: My thirtieth birthday is coming up and I want to get a tattoo-how in the world do I choose an artist? And how bad does it hurt?

Don't get something tattooed on you because you think you want a tattoo...get something tattooed on you because you want that specific image on you FOREVER.

Don't get something tattooed on you because you think you want a tattoo...get something tattooed on you because you want that specific image on you FOREVER. Very good advice mistersmith I do have a specific image in mind and have had variations of the same one for the last 5 to 7 years, just have been too scared to do it in the past. I guess the only reason I mentioned my age was not to appear young and capricious. Apparently I just appeared old and capricious

I guess the only reason I mentioned my age was not to appear young and capricious. Apparently I just appeared old and capricious I got one about 16 years ago and I fancy another. The problem is I am going in a number of different directions. I quite fancy depicting a piece by a modern artist I love (Ji, James Jean et al), but at other times I want one I have found in books detailing art from 60 years ago. Part of me has an idea of a semi-abstract floral piece as well.

Im in the same boat as above. Im in 2 minds whether to get a old skool still life piece but with a modern twist (tony Curanaj style)... or a linework geometric piece. TBH il probably go for both, but obviously need to take my time finding the best artist I can on the realism inspired work

Insomniac, I'm glad it kinda sounds like you're salvaging your NYC vacation after a bad start at JLG, although you and your wife being manhandled by undercover cops seems like less an adventure than a lawsuit. Hope at least Josh & Co went a way toward redeeming the behavior of NYC galleries.
May I recommend Sloan Fine Art while you're there? Note I think the gallery recently moved or is moving so you may want to call ahead. Alix Sloan the owner is not only a great curator but person too.

Insomniac... great story. Doesn't surprise me about Joshua Liner gallery. They are a class act and understands what it takes to run a gallery. They understand what it takes for many people to make a trip out to Chelsea (as it's not the most convenient place to go visit in NYC, and appreciate those that can appreciate art.)
Chloe & Ryan's show was great right?

Thrilled to find out that I will not miss Tauba's Tetrachromat exhibition. After work conflicts this week I'm not on my way to Bergen but just found out this week that they will be showing it in Malmo starting in March. No travel and more anticipation. So thankful for how these things have a way of sorting themselves out.

Spent the week in the City, got to hang with Laura from Andrew Eglin (really awesome person). The new Brian Adam Douglas (Elbow Tow) pieces are unreal. They are bringing them down to Miami for Art Basel. I got things started on acquiring one. He really really made big moves with this series. Keep an eye out there wont be a lot of pieces.

Any of you fellow Minnesotan's going to the 14th annual MCAD art sale? It will be my first time this year, and it sounds absolutely crazy. It's claimed to be one of the biggest art sales event of this type in the nation (with all the work from students to recent alumni). Ticket price is $150 for the first night, of which $100 is tax deductible. I guess there are thousands of works of art on the walls, and once they ring the bell you run around and grab all the art off the walls you can carry. Everything is priced under $1,250 with most works around the $50-$100 range. If you can't reach the work, there are assistants with ladders. It sounds like a recipe for disaster. It will be a true test of my smart/stupid decision making in a crazy hectic impulse buy scenario. But at least the stakes are not that high, and in the end you are supporting the school and future/current local artists. Here's a blurb about it: The 14th annual MCAD Art Sale unveils collections of paint-strewn papyruses, photographs, and graphic prints by students and recent graduates. Held every year the weekend before Thanksgiving, the art sale has generated more than $1,000,000 to support emerging artists and underprivileged smocks. The frenzy of opening-night festivities begin with complimentary beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m., followed by remarks and interpretive shadow puppets by MCAD President Jay Coogan. At the strike of 6:45 p.m., visitors nab up to one wall adornment every 12 seconds, while brushing eyes over landscapes of original opuses and opening their wallets faster than their neighboring collector. All attendees retrieve their tickets through will call only. Proceeds directly benefit individual artists or the MCAD's Art Sale Scholarship fund, and guests can purchase masterpieces with cash, check, credit card, and miniature portraits of President Andrew Jackson. I am planning to go on Saturday. It will be my first time as well, so I am not sure what to expect. From the description - it sounds pretty crazy We should have a board meet up for lunch or drinks if anyone else is going Saturday
