Uh. I don't know where you are getting this info but I know it's not true. I went to the show and bought a set without getting the chase or the drawing. I saw people buying multiple sets without getting either one either. Also I don't know what you are meaning about luke's chase. Gallery 1988's one of the better galleries out there so I hope you are sure before making such shocking and serious accusations. First, let's get one thing clear: I love G1988. That's why I said it is shocking to hear that. It's hard to believe. And I didn't say it was fact. I was asking if anyone knew it was true. Okay, well, I received a private message from someone speaking authoritatively on the matter. Of course, I'm unsure of the credibility of my source. Except that he did win the lotto with each of the sets he purchased. In fact, I've just arranged a trade (kinda lopsided in his favor, but I'm the one that made the proposal) for a lucky set (5th print, not drawing). According to my calculations, we, under normal circumstances, would have a 1 in 15 chance of getting lucky with either a 5th print or drawing (i.e. 15% of 500, lucky 5th print.... 5% of 500, an OG). That's 75 lucky packages. THAT'S one major reason so much excitement was generated prior to this release. Not to mention the 4 default prints are awesome to begin with... Still, I'm not starting this unsubstantiated allegation. But it is fact that someone has relayed this information to me, and is speaking authoritatively about it. Still, it's not a G1988 employee so no one knows for sure at this point. But IF true... It would be shocking.

agree w/ sleep. lets give them the benefit of doubt. otherwise, you'll drive yourself (and potentially others) crzy. Hi blah2u, I totally agree. I don't want to be propagating something of this magnitude if untrue. It's obvious my initial post was written in a state of utter shock. I'm going to try calling them when they're back in the office I guess on Tuesday....

Still, I'm not starting this unsubstantiated allegation. while you're not the "source" you're passing it on, so it seems that's exactly what's happening here, albeit with a small disclaimer that it may not be true. i agree with you, it would be shocking if it were true and personally i don't believe it.

Slight chance I could be misinformed... if anyone finds out for sure, please let us know. You were misinformed. I got this from Jensen 2 minutes ago: Not even close to true. Don't believe everything that you read, especially on message boards. We don't even know what sets have what. Jensen G1988 Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

It just wouldn't make sense... I apologize to everyone on this board for making this nastiness public. G1988 is one of my two favorite galleries (the other is Copro). They have the best themed shows and I've purchased 2 paintings in the past 5 months from them. They are always too cool to me. I should have emailed or called them before posting... (I tried calling actually). everyone, please forgive me!!

I read this earlier from my phone because entropy's initial post was brought to my attention but couldn't respond then. I'm glad it has been cleared up for the most part because there is just no possible way that could have been true. I know the way they pack things and like Jensen said...they don't even know or remember which 75 have the chases. I highly doubt there were even that many sets sold opening night to people who attended the show. There are bad galleries and there are good galleries and g1988 unlike most actually have a conscious and try to to be as fair as possible. And this is in no way specifically directed towards Entropy because it's happened to all of us at some point. We should all just think about things before we post because they are read by numerous people and certain things can leave very bad impressions about galleries, artists or board members when it's not neccessarliy warranted.
Ok, rant over...let's get back to Stella and this wonderful show of hers!!! Has anbody pulled a drawing chase...I want to see them!

I ordered three sets, and I think I know who entropy may have been told that by (not sure though). Basically a guy on expressobeans bought two sets, and they were not in order, and both of them had the #5 chases. If his story is true, and I don't see why he had a reason to lie, then I could see how he might assume that everyone there who bought set got chases. I mean, the odds of buying two sets and getting two chases seem pretty astronomical.
I'll even admit that I was bummed when he posted that with his theory that they sold all the chase sets first, though I assumed that maybe there had been some sort of error where after they packed the chases that maybe they didn't get shuffled or something. I definitely figured if it was actually the case that it was an honest mistake and not deliberate.
Then I read a few accounts of others who bought sets that night without getting any chases, so I was pretty sure it wasn't true.
Long story short.... WISH ME LUCK. haha

So I didn't believe it based on the public posts alone... Upon reading the PM, I figured now what's the point in ordering one. I don't want to mention his alias or anything 'cause he is actually a really cool guy Note: I'm the one that won the trade sweepstakes on that. I should receive my lucky set on Wednesday. But this is my first trade on EB so nothing's final till I have it in my hands (I already mailed out my end of the deal) Still, I'm guilty of not confirming this with the gallery before getting all riled up Anyway, I should just sit back now, content at having landed the 5th print. But I will be ordering one more set directly from G1988 SF though. I am hoping to get a drawing... I mean the odds are not bad for an actual drawing. Worth the gamble when you consider 6" x 8" drawings at the show are going for $1000. mute, actually I was ready to order one Sat. afternoon, but I think they were away at lunch, or called it a day at 3:30pm, or were just too busy. I will order one Monday or Tuesday, as long as someone answers the phone

Got back to LA this afternoon and had to run around all day, going to Barry McGee show and running errands. Some initial pics that marcus posted. More thoughts on the show tomorrow... sleepstodream.blogspot.com/2008/03/stella-im-hultberg-silent-spring.htmlbtw, which piece did you score sleep? Once? Lose Unfounded? or Lovely Day? jeez, marcus and sleepboy, you 2 really get around! what are you, international art connousieur playboys?! lol, i wish we were playboys. SF isn't that far from LA, I'm sure plenty of people go up there occasionally, we just happen to do it for a show ;D By the way, glad you guys cleared up the whole chase conspiracy theories lol. Good luck to those buying a set!!! A couple pics before I go to bed.

Someone on expressobeans also made a definitive statement that, and I quote, "Just ordered by phone as well. They are out of the special sets" I had totally forgotten about that. I figured he was maybe confused? Perhaps he thought they were selling the special sets separately and they told him it was random. Or maybe he was just stirring stuff up.

Pretty cool set of tats Stella's husband Matt's tattoo. I believe it's a buddhist prayer that incorporates all their beliefs. Stella's tattoo is the ending part of that buddhist prayer. Here is Stella drawing on Monica's neck Stella and Monica (a curator, friend) sounds like stella really enjoys painting on canvas and will look to do more of that in the future. it allows her to make bigger paintings. most of the canvases sold first so looks like fans are appreciating her new style. so i'm sure she'll have more canvases for her thinkspace show coming up and hopefully some little drawings. enjoyed my time in SF especially at the show. katie and stella were both very nice as usual. now i just need to find a way to get a complete mini-set
