i'm a big fan of eddie martinez. but his loosening up over the years is cutting both ways for me. sometimes i think it's great, a maturing. and in this case, i'm turning my head in confusion. i'm sure these will do great. i'm sure i'm in the minority. but i have to say, the emperor sketched on these prints is wearing no clothes.

The beauty of art. I came at his work from the opposite direction. I didn't like the figurative elements in his paintings. But as it became looser and finally just abstraction I liked it much more. Here are some examples of his earlier work.

Does anyone else have de Kooning issues with Martinez's work?

There's definitely de Kooning in his work. In one interview I read he even named a de Kooning as one of his favorite artworks. I also think graffiti is a big element.
