Gabe Leonard: No More Bullshit
October 10 – November 7, 2015
Opening Reception with Live Music:
Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 6-10pm
ArtHatch and Distinction Gallery are thrilled to present “No More Bullshit”, an epic new collection of badass paintings by artist Gabe Leonard. This exhibition will feature new paintings from Gabe's highly sought after "Desperado" series as well as some bonus eye-candy from his past series. Gabe Leonard's art has received global acclaim for his “cinematic” style and has quickly become one of the most sought-after artists in the world. Recent celebrity collectors of Leonard’s work include Quentin Tarantino, Charlie Sheen, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 6-10pm with Live Music. Leonard will be in attendance at the Opening Reception to meet, greet, and answer questions. Local artists within the ArtHatch building will have their studios open to the public as well. Complimentary Wine, and Stone Beer will be severed to guests.
Gabe Leonard spent his early years in rural Wyoming, sketching wildlife and selling his drawings for one dollar. After earning his BFA from Columbus College in Ohio, Leonard honed his talents on the ultra-competitive Venice Beach boardwalk. Described as "Johnny Cash meets Quentin Tarantino," Leonard's work possesses an intense cinematic quality combining the gestural brushwork of expressionism with the expert lighting and framing of a Hollywood cinematographer. His oils are cinematic, atmospheric and moody, revolving around outlaws, rugged noir characters to create narratives full of dramatic possibility. While his subjects and compositions belie a heavy influence of modern and contemporary cinema, Leonard's artistic style is rooted firmly in a European tradition. While he often breaks from academic restrictions with his loose brushwork and characteristic drips, he counts Rembrandt, Mucha, Klimt and Schiele as amongst his influences.
The exhibition will run from October 10 - November 7, 2015
ArtHatch is a 7000 square foot building which houses the front gallery: exhibitions changing monthly, "The Alley," featuring new and previous works from over 75 artists, the teen room featuring artwork by 15+ teen artists, 14 artist studios, ranging in size from 150 to 800 square feet, featuring the work of over 28 local artists, and "The Lounge", containing 8 walls featuring local artists.
