Check out the work of Blek Le Rat, the original Parisian guerilla artist, tonight at Subliminal Projects in Echo Park (Los Angeles). Blek Le Rat is kind of like Banksy's godfather, art-wise, and this is his U.S. debut. www.subliminalprojects.com/main/current.phpThe first street artist who painted rats was probably Blek le Rat, a Parisian who witnessed the beginnings of the graffiti movement on a visit to NYC in 1971 and brought it home. By 1981, he was hitting the streets of Paris with some of the first stencil graffiti. "I began to spray some small rats in the streets of Paris because rats are the only wild animals living in cities, and only rats will survive when the human race disappears and dies out," he said. "I wanted to do a rat invasion. I put thousands all over Paris." Two decades later, following in Blek le Rat's footsteps, Banksy would revive the symbol of the rat with a new element of playful humor and social commentary.”Every time I think I’ve painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well – only twenty years earlier.” – Banksy brentley.com/wordpress/?p=156glltn.com/blog/2007/04/04/project-s2dio-006-blek-le-rat/blekmyvibe.free.fr/Blek Le Rat bombing LA. www.juxtapoz.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2963&Itemid=62

Okay, seriously, who's gonna pick me up a set of those?
Edit: I mean the prints of course. Unless you want to pick me up an original and don't intend to get paid for it, then by all means pick me up one of those too!

Okay I'm just gonna keep posting. If anyone is going to this and would be able to grab an extra set (they're probably gonna be limited 1 per), I would love one. I can paypal up front, and throw in a little extra cash or maybe something in trade for your effort.
Thanks!

This was a great show...I really enjoyed myself. And Blek is one of the nicest and most humble people around.
