ABOUT THE ARTIST
Painter and architect, working in Buenos Aires.
Far away from conventional architecture, Pastel considers works placed on the street as ‘urban acupuncture’. Modern cities are full of ‘non-places’, due to irregular and non-inclusive masterplanning. Done properly, public paintings can help kickstart these forgotten places, working with consideration to local identity and not just being another tool of social gentrification.
Whether in a city or rural space; public or private; Pastel tries to understand the conditions that the environment offers, rather than imposing an already established concept for the space. Working with local botanic flora as a symbol of local identity and history, the pieces begin a dialogue about the nature of man and his surroundings. The existential, real, pure and tragic, almost forgotten in modern society.
In the last couple of years, Pastel has been travelling and painting extensively, and this year alone has left his mark in Puerto Rico, Detroit, Miami, Philippines, Baton Rouge, Ukraine, Oslo, Berlin, Moscow, Barcelona, Mexico, Arkansas... and Brighton!
As a reminder these go on sale tomorrow... we've had a lot of interest...
