I really digging this guys work for awhile he has done some pretty great shows in terms of keeping true to a theme and executing it cleanly.
Late last year he did a show around the theme of edgar allen poe...I personally felt each piece was went together flawlessly from the color pallet to the character interpretation to the explanation of each piece it was great.
here are some of the pieces from the show:
He also had a solo show at the Rivet Gallery that also kept to a theme and it was really a show with a great characters and amazing style:
for all those interested I once asked him about his process and this is what he wrote back:
as for the pieces, yeah, i guess you can say that they are hybrid worked. what i do is first draw the whole project out by hand, vectorized it according to colors/layers. i then build a box out of wood, usually alpine, sand it and paint with watered layers of acrylic. mask the whole piece and lay the next color, etc until i get to where i want the piece to be. next, i distress the whole board with sanding and an acrylic "mud" that i mix up. next step is applying the character print using acrylic medium. i then distress the print and board once more to get an even look. the final step is to seal the entire piece with acrylic medium. this UV protects the piece as well as waterproofs it... it also helps bring out the color depth a bit. sorry if that's a lengthy explanation, but i want you to see that yes, these are one of a kinds. i will never reproduce an original.
BTW this is his newest piece for a show at the Bear and Bird gallery triplet show.
