the richard heller gallery is where these pieces came from - I believe they were priced at $4500 each - I chuckled when I saw them - typical Dzama surrealist stuff - It was interesting for me to be at the art fair in nyc because there were artists I've been following for years and had only seen their work on the web or in print - when I saw their work in person, I wasn't as impressed. I saw a big Ron English piece which Copro had - I didn't take a picture but, it wasn't nearly as nice in person as what it appeared to be online. I can say the same about Dzama's work - I dig it but, was left with that flat kinda feeling. There were a couple others - I won't mention their names because I don't think my opinion should really carry any weight - other than just being an opinion - but, there were a couple of others that get mentioned on the boards and their work didn't do it for me at all - I did see one new artist and was really impressed - both by the quality of the work, the narrative and the price - If I had $ I would have bought on the spot - there was another artist I really was blown away by - way way way out of my price range and I believe the gallery nearly sold out of that artist's works.

the dzama work that richard heller has is all very early (2000 or older). his new work was featured by david zwirner at pulse. personally, i find these newer works far more interesting and impressive.

An interesting 3D piece from Art Basel. You can check out all our coverage of the fair here by the way.
