This show sounds pretty exciting with all the entertainment & costumes. Gary Baseman's "La Noche de la Fusion" at Corey Helford Gallery www.coreyhelfordgallery.com/#/future/Info from Juxtapoz below La Noche de la Fusion, Gary Baseman's next solo show, opens Saturday, May 2nd at Corey Helford Gallery. Be sure to save the date to attend this one-of-a-kind celebration, as it ensures to be a night like no other. . .this isn't just a regular art show reception. It's a celebration, a ceremony, a unique experience. La Noche de la Fusion’s debut will feature women in Baseman-inspired Carnivale costumes, live music, Baseman characters coming to life, and a sacrificial ceremony during the opening reception. The artist “guarantees you've never seen anything like this.” Or maybe you have...the influences for this show can be found the world over, inspired by Baseman's round-the-world travels in 2008 and 2009. It's a night of fusing and melting cultures, of blurring lines of reality, of melting the walls and forces that hold one back, it's La Noche de la Fusion. www.garybaseman.comwww.coreyhelfordgallery.comInfo and Picture below from Baseman's MySpace.Baseman preparing for his upcoming exhibition "La Noche de la Fusion." Stopped by his studio to take a look at preparations from this show. Sounds like a spectacle that shouldn't be missed. Costumes for the Baseman girls Baseman's costume. Some sort of transformative sacrificial ceremony that may or may not happen.

Okay, this is gonna be an art happening, 60's style -- costumed Baseman characters, masks, music, love, dancing, ice cream, lanterns & banners from Thailand, carnival lights, hula hoops on fire, performance art, everything you've heard and more. And, that's just the outdoor festival taking up the entire parking lot next to the gallery. Inside the gallery, Gary's newest works and an amazing installation with participation from artists from around the world. Nobody's done anything like this in a long time, so come and have fun! The festival opens at 6:30 and there's free valet parking. My best to all the art lovers on the board - Jan

The show was amazing! It wasn't just an art opening, it was an event, a multi media event. I can't imagine the planning and preparations (not to mention $) that went into putting on such an event. I can't imagine that will ever be topped for a gallery opening. My only complaint is that I didn't make it to all of the other shows that I planned on seeing because I stayed longer than I had intended.

That was a fun show. I had to let Melissa Haslam...visiting for her show from Australia...that that was not the typical gallery show in LA. Amazing production from the whole CHG team...and fantastic job by Gary.
Jack took tons of great pics on dailydujour.

what a great show. My girl and I showed up pretty late, and Jan Corey was nice enough to make sure we got in with no hassles to enjoy the festivities. Didn't get a chance to say hi to Richard though. What a great show, you could tell that a lot went into putting this together....and I heard that the myth, man, and legend himself Mark Ryden was in attendance.

No one has really mentioned the artwork directly? Id like to see gallery installation of the framed art.

Thank you StephenW. My favorite by far. One of the smaller of the show, but I agree. Something about this one drew me in more than the others.

Thank you StephenW. My favorite by far. One of the smaller of the show, but I agree. Something about this one drew me in more than the others. that was the stand out piece for me too. seemed a little more subtle than some of his images.
