Thanks for the nice comments, even if one is proud of their own collection, it means a lot to get validation from others. The baby in the egg I bought in Holland when I was last there in a little shop in the tourist town of Volendam, they had a bunch of larger ones and smaller ones all in different configurations, we got a medium sized one. I have a card from the artist but haven't found it yet. As soon as I do, I'll post it.

wow. look at that awesome collection! that first reuben rude is amazing. have not seen him do a collab before, and it works really well - what sort of dimensions is that one? looks quite large. one of those other rr pieces features a female character. i've only seen very few of his works featuring the ladeez.... you have a lot of works by artists i've not come across before - will have to check them out. other real stand outs for me are the damon soule and andrew hem pieces - love his work and have been wanting to aquire something myself for a while - i really dig his matchbox faces!! i love how he uses the matches for the teeth... as sleepboy says, mad skills on the grandaddy, and your own work is pretty damn fine also. from one architect to another, i like the reference to your 'career' within some of your pieces. thanks so much for sharing!!

Thanks for the replies,
Matt, unfortunately the Hertels haven't found a home yet, I think we are going to have to do a major reorganization, as most of the pieces are clustered, and to fit a few new ones in will take the moving of a number of others. Very happy with it though. Hope you like the London Police, and looking forward to seeing it up.
Steveinca, we definitely like Reuben Rude, and talked to him for a while this past weekend. He mentioned he is going to have a solo show at 1988 early next year, and will be in a bunch of group shows this year. Really nice guy.
Svenman, the collaboration is about 14X40 - pretty good size, we kind of lucked into it, it was done at a live painting event, and we showed up at the end, and grabbed it right away, I'd say it's our favorite piece right now. An architect huh? As you probably understand, the reference to my career in my work is inherent to the process, I seem to approach art the same as building design. I am happy with the direction, I just need to improve my technique a lot, buti'll get there. As you probably also understand though, the career means a lot of extra hours working that I could have spent painting. oh well. What type of work do you do?

We mainly do high-end, modern residential work. Our 3 current projects (4 person firm) range from 6 million to 18 million dollars. I'm running a 12 million dollar house currently, and help out intermittently with the other projects. Definitely not the scope you are working with, but with rich clients working on their home, we tend to spend a lot of time playing psychologist as well. Either way, it's a lot of fun being able to stick with a modern aesthetic, and actually a few of the drawings I did for work, became abstracted into some of the paintings I did.

lol. thats funny. thats a big order book value for 3 resi projects. i'd love to work on home high end resi myself. i'm currently planning my own house extension for a new place i'm buying, which is a bit of a dream come true! i'm calling in lots of favours to try and keep the cost as low as possible.....

Nice collection, and diverse range of artists. There's definitely a lot of great art out there for under $500, and always great to support young emerging artists.

Thanks for the nice comments. I find it interesting how art tastes, and collections are very definitely influenced by the location. Not only because of proximity, but I think the LA art scene has different feel to it than the bay area artists. And the collections follow suit. Hmm, maybe a good topic to start a thread on.

Yeah, that would be a great thread. The influence of geography on art collecting.

I got one of the small ones - "Rainy Day Kid"
Would have liked "Robot Creation Myth", "Skydiver", "A Trip to the Moon" or any of the Rich Tuzon ones, but really can't spend right now, it's really hard not to though.

Reuben Rude Brian Rush Erik Foster Deth P Sun Ferris Plock Jeremy Forson The Rude is amazing in person - and was done for our 1st Anniversary. Nice commission from Rueben Rude, and good scores from Sketch Tuesdays.
That's a really great way to commemorate your 1 year anniversary, and will definitely have sentimental value for years to come.

Thanks, we are very happy with it, though I worry a bit that it could seem a bit caricaturish. But on the other hand, who cares, I like it. Anyway, great guy to work with, he said he has about 3 other paintings of us under the finished one that he wasn't too happy about and there is clearly a lot of layers to the piece. He definitely put a lot of time and thought into it, which definitely adds to it.

Nice commission from Rude. Actually like it a lot. One of these days if you aren't too shy you should post pics of yourself so we can compare with all the personal commissions you do, but if you don't we understand Lucky to get all those cheap drawings too...wish I lived up there. Well, then I would miss the LA stuff haha.
