i was coming out of Pace gallery today and almost bumped right into Kaws today coming out of a gallery next store. I did the fan thing and stopped him since he was completely solo. Had a few minutes with him and let him go.
I would have loved to ask him a bunch of shit but since it was outside of an exhibition or art related event I kept it brief and didn't hold him up. He was real nice a seemed pretty jacked that I have a painting and a bunch of his figures. Seeing him super casual... even for him that close... he's so dam young looking, even for his age. Pretty amazing what he's accomplished so far.

Wow, nice opportunity to catch him outside of openings. He's usually pretty shy and almost seems to avoid talking to his fans sometimes. Did you find him any different?

So release date is August 28th in Japan. Associated retailers should get theirs several weeks later.

I wonder what the edition size. Since its a Japan release it should be a large run and hopefully not to difficult to get.

wow - I also love the hands in the background. Interested to see what he does with them. Good eye. Spotted them after I posted this as well. I take it their hands for a giant Chum sculpture as well. Just wonder what medium they will eventually be finalized in, as I presume these are simply styrofoam cube pieces together, cut down to form and perhaps painted over. Would be badass if these were the initial stages for huge permanent bronze sculptures to be kept over there. But I figure that's highly unlikely. Regardless, definitely looking forward to the realization of this project. Anything at this scale, especially such iconic characters, always turns out amazing.

Hm... They do look styrofoamish, although could he stand on it and not damage it? Wish I could see these in person. I'll be there in March but I doubt they will be there that long. Who get's dibs when the show is done?

Styrofoam is often used to create a mold for bronze or fiberglass sculptures so I think there's a lot more to this than meets the eye

^^^ They shouldn't be difficult to come by at all once they start being distributed to all retail account holders. Information on total edition size seems to be scare from OF/Medicom, deliberately or not. But I've heard at least 1000. There are a few places to place preorders now, if you merely want to lock one down. But I'd imagine Brian will be unloaded a fairly sizable allotment on kawsone shortly, where he'll definitely have the lowest price available outside of Japan. Prices have been all over the places at the various OF accounts, ranging from $250-350. But again, if you want to lock one down you could preorder from ToyQube.. www.toyqube.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TOYQUBE&Product_Code=4887&Category_Code=Hope this helps.

For some reason, not liking this tweety as much as the pinnochio and jiminy cricket. Here is a shot at the finished sculpture for the Hong Kong show.

Old news. But looks like they're dropping Saturday @ OF for $193. Did these drop yesterday? Just in Tokyo. Guess I should've clarified before. Any OF/Medicom release will drop there first. The usual suspects - with the way the Pinocchio release transpired that appears to mainly be TT and TQ here in the States these days - should be offering them for sale soon once they get their orders on lock. If you're interested, I'd keep your eyes peeled to their sites. If I hear something in the interim, I'll post or PM you. I'm getting the sense Brian is no longer concerning himself with handling these releases, which only makes sense. He's been so busy with his fine art, and with the amount of trips he takes to and from Asia and elsewhere for various projects, dealing with sales on kawsone with his lone assistant would be a bit much. Perhaps that's why there hasn't been an official drop there since the Mono Bearbrick. And suppose that could also be why TT and TQ had so many Pinocchio figures to offer, as I know Lev at least has known Brian for years. Just thinking aloud, though. But the site has been down for a couple days now. So maybe they're getting ready to drop the Tweetys..or the site has been rendered useless and taken down indefinitely.
