I've never owned a Kaws piece. Out of curiosity, for those of you that own pieces, are the eye "x" markings on the figure heads painted on, or is there a depression in the mold along with paint? Hope that makes sense, it's something i've recently wondered about. Hey bud - The X's are there in the mold (in relief) and are painted... Jim thanks for the clarification, jim

So I finally made it over to Aldrich yesterday and got somewhat lucky that they had added work to the show. The official unveiling will happen January 30 2011 and Kaws will be there to sign his book.

It is the sculpture for Hong Kong, I believe this was the only piece added. They had no problem with me sitting on it and taking pictures and what not although I'm assuming for the opening they will section it off.

Cool. Thanks for the photo. I wonder how long it can last in the snow without getting damaged...

Getting pretty fed up with Aldridge, anyone have an update on the mess they've created by preselling a print they had no idea when would be released?

wish i knew for sure what is going on. Communication with them isn't great. Any dates floated out there on a new date of Aldrich SpongeBob release? I mean how much different will it really be? or is it more of a quality thing?

was there not a slew of these prints flipped on ebay directly after the initial release at a book fair or something? does that means that there are numbers of the edition out there that are deemed to be 'not acceptable' to kaws?

I dont know what's the deal, but as an observer I must say that it is pretty poorly done business.. for a $800+ print to be that vague about info and all, not a good thing AT ALL... and the "Kaws wasn't happy so they're gonna reprint it" excuse sounds super lame to me..
but than again, s**t does happen, so lets see...

I people on ebay selling the print don't have the actual print in hand yet either, it's a when I get it in hands it will be shipped type deal I think as they were not actually available at the fair to take home. The folks at the museum are super nice and are quick to get back every time I have asked for an update but the best thing to do would have probably been an update via email or on their website instead of these bits and bobs of info coming from an assortment of folks who have looked into it and then passed along whatever they have learned. They are pretty darn slow based on how long it took to get my book but once again as it’s been said over and over they are a small museum and were totally caught off guard by the interest but it's not like dealing directly with Kaws.com in the past has been any better, damaged good, total lack of customer service and a contract that states despite these problems they are not resopnsible. So it is what it is.

Really? You'd give them that much slack for being small and unprepared? What did they do? Sell 100 books and release one very basic screenprint? Surely there's not not much shit to get-together there....

I'm not saying give them slack as much as I'm saying this service is what I receive for my hard earned money with 99% of the people/companies I deal with. Believe me you I have spent much time bitching about it, especially the book which took a silly amount of time to get to me even though I live 45 min away and this was after being there in person and asking if I could just pick it up to be told it had been sent out which it hadn't. I feel your pain, hell i have the same pain I'm just saying when I have dealt with similar people business's it's been the same for me.

I just read February for the Sponge Bob print on Kid Robot, and hey I'm annoyed too because they haven't let everyone know via an email or posting BUT Kaws chose to re do it and Kaws is the one who took a while to get the books signed and Kaws will be the one who will most likely take a while to get them back to the museum once they are printed and signed for shipping, it is not one individuals fault but rather the system set up.

Must have heard us, I just got this in my inbox..... Dear Aldrich Edition Purchaser, Thank you so much for your recent purchase of the Aldrich Edition work by KAWS, Untitled (Image of SpongeBob), a nine color screenprint on paper; 20 x 20 inches; edition of 100. I wanted to update you on our shipping schedule for this edition. KAWS decided to reprint the edition to new specifications, which has caused a delay in the shipping of your print. We have just received confirmation that the reprint is now successfully under way. As soon as the printing is complete, KAWS will schedule a time to sign the edition. We then anticipate being able to ship your work to you in early February. Thank you for your patience; please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. Wishing you a happy 2011, Lise Sharfin Museum Store Manager 258 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT 06877 Tel 203.438.4519 x 26, Fax 203.438.0198 aldrichart.org
