Very nice start, you jumped right in to mixing the colors. I had, and still have a lot of trouble doing that well. I tend to have the Jeremy Fish technique using short obvious brush strokes of a different color to gradually change colors rather than a true gradation.
Also, I am starting to learn that using oils on paintings lengthens the process a lot, as painting certain things when everything is wet is more appropriate, and painting certain parts a couple days or a week later, when it is somewhat dry is much easier. Each one seems to take a few weeks for me now (though I like to have several going at once)
However, This is only what I guess from trying, I never really learned from anybody, so take it for what it's worth. I saw Matt Dangler gave you some tips on the other board, that's somebody to learn from.
