Finally saw a piece of her work in person at the OHWOW gallery show at Basel. Was impressed by the detail.

Current Deitch/Kathy Grayson/LES/Media darling it-girl. Work is good. Hype is better..seems to be picking up where Dash Snow left off. Meaning that you're buying the personality and lifestyle that she seems to be pushing as hard as her drawings. track her escapades on Kathy Graysons blog for more info. blogs.myspace.com/kathernator

I love Aurel's work and I'd love one of her Burn out pieces, but I'm finding most of this new body of work a little too sacrin for me. Technically it's incredible work though.

I had the same reaction to the work, but then I read this and warmed up (no fireplace pun intended) to it a little: interviewmagazine.com/blogs/art/2010-08-20/aurel-schmidt-the-fireplace-project/"You aren't going to produce your magnum opus in August," says Schmidt, referring to the age-old tradition of showing any-old artwork during this summer. "So I wanted to resist the impulse to over-think, and just have the show be about lightness."

This was on sale initially for $7500 on the preview for the Facemaker show and then $10,000 at the show. I'm interested in her stuff but are those really her prices, especially for such a simple piece?

interesting that the price went UP after the preview? what's the deal with that?

The OH-WOW pieces in the previous post were $6,000 I believe so either her prices have shot up in no time or the Hole is trying it on.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if all those pieces sold from OHWOW. Maybe I will contact them to see.

They all sold to one collector prior to the show.

They all sold to one collector prior to the show. Interesting fact. Is it usual to raise prices based on purchase of all pieces in the show by a single collector? Or maybe its just due time for an increase.

They all sold to one collector prior to the show. Thanks. Guess I may have missed the boat. We'll see if this price bump was an isolated incident.
