This might explain why Deitch has suspended some of their programming.

I heard the McGee show and the Clare Rojas show were on hold...due to some inner gallery situation.

Press conference postponed indefinitely... Is Deitch getting cold feet?
Hm... Interesting on the McGee and Rojas - were they the next scheduled show though?

Deitch will close.... hmm will shepard go back to levine? or will MOCA hold a Banksy like show for him and many others.... Will the Museum/Gallery line start to blur in the near future?
Wouldn't be bad idea in some caases...this will drive up prices galore for the roster of Deitch artist.... so many questions!?!?!?!? That space in NY is amazing I wonder what will happen to it... would love it to be an annex of some sort....

That space in NY is amazing I wonder what will happen to it... would love it to be an annex of some sort.... The space is really nice - it all depends on whether he owns it or not. If he doesn't I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a Shake Shack after he vacates. I am definitely not worried for his artists. I am sure they will all be just fine.

I think stipulations say he will cease all commercial activity by June? Does that mean, some shows will still happen?

Just came from the MOCA Contemporaries Board Meeting last night. Direct from MOCA liaison...Deitch will have to sell all interests in his galleries. The assumption is he will probably be selling pieces off to his directors - but will and cannot have any financial interest in the remaining businesses.
Deitch taking control of the museum is a GREAT thing for fans of emerging pop/lowbrow/street/skate art. He will hopefully bring some increased legitimacy to the genre's. However do not think that Deitch now has full control of decisions. MOCA's chief curator Paul Schimmel has been with the museum a long time and is a strong enough presence to balance decision making. Add in the Acquisitions Advisory Board and their is a system of checks and balances in place.
Still, this is an exciting decision on behalf of the museum...and certainly will create some controversy.

Sounds like Kathy Grayson will be taking some of the artists as suspected. www.artinfo.com/news/story/34110/in-post-deitch-nyc-kathy-grayson-steps-up/Some points: * Grayson plans on opening a gallery of her own * She plans on having some of the Deitch stable of artists represented at her gallery * A financial backer is on-board (”a young gallery owner from Europe”) * The gallery space will be relatively large (currently eyeing a 3,200 sq-ft building) * Although the artists she will bring with her are not yet revealed, Rosson Crow is most likely coming, but probably not heavy hitters such as Francesco Clemente or Kehinde Wiley and not pure street artists such as Swoon, Os Gemeos, and Shepard Fairey. Our money is on Aurel Schmidt and Tauba Auerbach also joining her. * Her first post-Deitch show could be a sequel to the highly successful “Street Market” exhibition with Barry McGee, Todd James, and ESPO in 2000. * Jeffrey Deitch will not have an official partnership in the gallery, but she will most likely consult with him often * Grayson feels she owes much of her success to the opportunity Jeffrey Deitch provided her
