In a museum located in Astana (Kazakhstan) guests were forced to wear these slippers things (that resemble shower caps) and leave shoes in coat check. Seemed a little silly at the time, but after having read this - not so much.

I was forced to wear an elastic clothing wrapper over my shoes when I went to International Friendship Exhibition Hall in North Korea to keep its huge marble floor spotless, but I can imagine that the security there would ask a lady to remove her high heel shoes upon arrival. I had to walk through the security scanner gate as cameras weren't allowed . Totally intriguing experience there! I just hope that museums don't actually follow this trend!

I only got as far as the DMZ and Dandong, China... Coming from the South/North border w/o a permit would've been silly on my part and I was planning on going when I get thing sorted out since my cousin goes there every so often. But yeah, it seemed silly at the time but after having read this seems logical to enforce these measures... If the press released her name, people would probably stone her to death.
