Shepard Fairey’s new print made especially for Barack Obama’s inauguration is now available from the Inaugural Store. There are two versions unsigned for $100 (24 x 36″ numbered 1001-9999 with 8500 available), signed for $500 (24 x 36″ with 750 available). The signed version is probably sold out but it looks like the unsigned version is still popping up occasionally. Hopefully, for those still trying there will be more uncarted or perhaps it wasn’t all released at once. www.inauguralstore.com/category/ART.html

Strange that Shep would take a pic with James Bell, CFO of Boeing. No biggie...but it seems a bit strange for an artist, whose work focuses on anti-war and pro-green themes, to take pics with the CFO of one of the biggest weapons producing and environmentally damaging companies in the world. Maybe i'm being too critical, and shep was just being nice by letting his pic be taken with the guy.

James paid for the Brunch... He walked up to Shepard, expressed his thanks for creating the image for Obama's campaign, then asked him for a picture. I just took that picture to be polite cause Shepard knighted me his picture taker for day.
You're right, Shepard is a REALLY friendly guy and has inpeccable manners. He doesn't turn and snub anyone whether its for a picture or an autograph. It's actually up to his friends to stop the blitzkrieg of autograph hounds from running him ragged.

Thanks for the explanation my friend . Nothing but respect for an artist who IMO will be thought of as one of our generations top artists. You were his picture taker for the day? Lol...that's awesome.......i HOPE he gave you a free print .

"Outlaws at the Art Museum (and Not for a Heist)" www.nytimes.com/2009/01/25/weekinreview/25kennedy.html?ref=design"One thing they’re doing is simply adhering to an old graffiti work ethic: get your work up anywhere, everywhere, any way you can, as long as you don’t get caught. There’s nothing wrong with getting it into a museum, as some street artists like Banksy might contend, but a museum is also just one among many good places to get your work seen, in Mr. Fairey’s estimation.
'It’s not the audience and the forum that they crave in the way that somebody in an earlier generation might have,' said Carlo McCormick, the New York art critic, of museumgoers and museums. 'Shepard has a very predatory gaze,' said Mr. McCormick, who has followed his work and contributed an essay to a 2006 book about it. 'If he comes to a town he’s looking at it like a criminal. He’s casing the place and figuring out where he can get his stuff up. And who he really cares about reaching and the ways he cares about reaching them have remained remarkably consistent.'"

In light of the recent Inauguration and media spotlight that Shepard Fairey has been receiving, I have taken a little bit more time to look into his work and technique. In all honesty, his work has never been something that I enjoy as much as others. A lot of the work is cool, but it is the contribution to the street art movement, graffiti and idea of propaganda through art that makes me enjoy it more than the images and work itself. I must admit though, all of the hype has made me more interested in Fairey as an artist. I recently found this article, which really was a little bit ironic and disturbing. I am not posting this in a negative way, but more as a conversation piece to bring out some views from the people who are more informed and follow his work much more than myself. I think it may have been touched upon earlier in this thread, but it was in another link and different context. www.art-for-a-change.com/Obey/index.htmI would like to hear what people think about what is said here. It looks like the writers of the article did their research before presenting their thoughts. I would like to hear any thoughts on this subject from anyone a bit more familiar with Shepard's work and his technique. Just crazy that his work is demanding this much money, and undoubtedly going to skyrocket even more.
