For those that are fans of Murakami, Nara and all the new young Japanese artists...you should get to know Yoshitaka Amano, who was a huge influence on all of them. Amano was one of the original artists on everything from Speed Racer, to the principal artist and designer for the Final Fantasy series of games. He also won awards illustrating Neil Gaiman's Sandman series and created the Vampire Hunter D anime. His original artwork is amazing in person and you can definitely see how heavily Amano influenced Murakami...though Murakami is clearly a better businessman!
