A friend sent me this story and thought id share. Sooooo cute but sad. AT 120 DEGREES IN AUSTRALIA , IT WAS SO HOT FOR A WEEK THAT KOALAS WERE ASKING PEOPLE FOR WATER. IT'S NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE. ONE WENT TO A HOUSE TO TRY TO HIDE FROM THE HEAT AND TO GET A BIT OF SHADE AND HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THE OWNER GAVE HIM SOMETHING TO DRINK.

These never come out of the trees. They must be desperate. Hard to think of a cuter looking animal.

I thought koalas were really vicious in real life. I would just give them the water and run away.

On second thought, after seeing this pic below, kaola cuddling is not foreseeable in my future. Not sure if this pic is a fake or not. Kinda hope that it is indeed fake, would suck to know that these cute little dudes are capable of biting your face off.

Does this remind anybody else of that episode of the Simpsons when they go to Australia?

I went to the zoo recently and the guide said that koalas may seem very cute, but in reality they are cranky and irritable creatures. They like to sleep and eat... if they are hungry or tired you don't want to be near them. They have eagle like Talons on their paws to help them climb or gouge out your eyeballs. Forget about holding them. Imagine a friendly one hanging onto you the way the Koala in the video above held onto the tree during the fight. They only know one motion of hugging... they'll treat your arm/body like a mountain and use their paws as mountain climbing gear... Ouch.
