We've been working up to this for a while with Tran and are very excited to present her debut solo show featuring ten new works. Tran Nguyen ‘Nurturing the Uneased Soul’ (in our project room) Exhibition run dates: March 12th – April 2nd, 2010 Opening Reception: Fri, March12th 7-11PM * This will be the last show at our Silver Lake location. We will relocate to Culver City this April.Artist Bio:Tran Nguyen is a Vietnamese artist specializing in fantastical and surrealistic imagery. Tran is fascinated with creating imagery that can be used as a psycho-therapeutic support vehicle. Currently based in Savannah, Georgia, she enjoys the aesthetics of nature and the outdoors which is often incorporated into her work. She is currently enrolled at the Savannah College of Art and Design where she will graduate with a B.F.A in illustration in the year ahead. Artist Statement for the works in 'Nurturing The Uneased Soul':Human distress and weariness of the soul are prevalent illnesses we’ve all encountered in our existence. It is ubiquitous to say that life is hard and it’s even harder to relieve ourselves of this chronic disquiet. It is my hope that the milieus portrayed in ‘Nurturing the Uneased Soul’ pay homage to those who are facing everyday-life difficulties – you, your family, friends, neighbors, acquaintances, or even strangers. The visual metaphors that are depicted in my paintings capture our emotional turmoil. They embody someone that we can contemplate with, something that reorganizes our cluttered mind. It’s somewhere that nurses the unattended thoughts we’ve tucked away, deep inside our psyche. My imageries serve as a reservoir for the mind to collect itself, replenish itself, and resolve itself from its emotive tension. My hopes are that once the viewer has plunged into my oeuvre, they are able to emerge from the pilgrimage with a new, untarnished mindset. With whatever existent hardship you may be enduring, I deeply hope it can help nurture your exasperated soul. Take a ‘Sneak Peek’ at the works for ‘Nurturing the Uneased Soul’ coming together here:www.flickr.com/photos/thinkspace/sets/72157623292253588/Note: Plans are already in place for Tran to return next November alongside Joao Ruas for a two-person show in our main gallery space. Definitely something to look forward to.

CommandaX just posted a great lil' preview on Tran over at her blog: commandax.blogspot.com/2010/02/tran-nguyens-turbulent-mindscapes.html"Working in graphite, colored pencils, and thin glazes of highly diluted acrylic on the rougher reverse side of Rives BFK paper, she achieves a soft, delicate aesthetic that feels like an impossibly controlled watercolor. An admirer of Gustav Klimt, she sometimes employs a flat gold geometric pattern that acts as a floating screen through which elements of the painting unfurl. The surreal dimensionality of these elements – sprouting feathers, billowing fabrics and twining ribbons – makes a breathtaking contrast to their softly rendered backdrops." - Erratic Phenomena

We're getting a very strong response to Tran's new series. Wanted to mention we still have a few great pieces in our inventory from group shows over past few months: www.thinkspacegallery.com/artists.php (click on 'works & bio' next to her name) Tran will be back next year alongside Joao Ruas in a 2-person show in the fall in our main gallery. Before then we'll have her in a handful of group shows including our UK show this June we are curating at London Miles as well as our 5 Year Anniversary group show this November. More details soon...
