most of the time delivery men call i am not in. many of them have annoying habit of leaving stuff outside my front door, where anyone can steal it, but to me more worrying is that they often leave things over my back gate.(which involves dropping it about 6 feet and leaving it for 8 hours in the pouring rain)
has anyone suffered damage to any pieces due to incompetent delivery men?
apologies if this thread exists already.

I cant stand most delivery services. I had a friend that worked for UPS and said that a common thing they were told to do, was stack the boxes in the truck as high as possible and then unpack the truck, grab the top box and pull so they all fall down.
I had a vintage Gibson SG Guitar get its neck snapped from a UPS guy. Took months to get the insurance, and a great guitar was destroyed.
The UPS, Fedex and so on in my town always leave stuff on the doorstep. I even had something stolen off the doorstep a bit ago.

I always get stuff sent to my office and I know at least Fed Ex requires a signature on commercial addresses. I also think there is a signature required option when shipping. I go into details with galleries when things are to be shipped out as I'm somewhat neurotic about my deliveries. I try not to be a pain but it is quite important that everything arrives in good shape.

i came home a couple of weeks ago to find the delivery man had forced a pair of jeans through my letterbox!
(an A4 sized slot in the door for letters, about 1/2 inch deep due to two rows of draught excluding brushes)

Skinny fit I presume?
It's uncanny how I can stay waiting for a scheduled delivery, make a five minute trip to buy a paper/lunch/etc and that is, way more times than I can believe, inevitably the time they choose to call.
Similarly, if I do stay in all day waiting on them, they arrive late in the afternoon.
They aren't all bad though. We have a very friendly UPS fella who leaves his personal mobile number and has, after I've called him, frequently back-tracked a fair way to get things to me after I missed his initial call (when out for a paper/lunch/etc)...

They are particularly annoying when they leave stuff out in the rain...

While I feel sorry for some people who get annoyed by those people, my UPS guy's my main guy. He knows my neighbors pretty well that he usually rings my neighbors if I'm not around home to leave a box for me within a gate door.
