Would love to pick up anything carved in wood by him. He's showing same time as Josh Keyes I think. That would make one hell of an opening. Too bad I'm not in NY.

I checked about and found out it's the same thing as with the recent Musgrove show, all his sculptures and carved frames are done by someone else overseas.
There's one of his carved sculptures on display at the new Upper Playground LA store... just insane, but can't bring myself to it due to the fact he didn't carve it himself... heck...
That's almost a thread to start - how folks feel about things like that... whatcha think?

There was a short discussion about it in the Musgrove thread. I'm wondering if there is like one main connection/artist overseas that does all these carvings for them.

Yah, I feel kinda gypped if i pay top dollar for a sculpt that is not really done by the artist. I would not do that. Maybe if it was priced better. Owning an sculpt like brendan monroe's feels so much better. Why pay the same money for a piece that someone in Asia did.
Also, don't believe the artists use the same source. At least Ryden and Musgrove don't.

well... can't wait to see what he brings to the show. whether you like it or not, there will be more custom frames and figures - which he worked with alot more closely this time around (personally I really like it. i think his style translates very well into 3d form, and if he is not a sculpter/carver by trade (although that would have been awesome)... i would rather his vision be passed to a pro and done right). also heard there will be some very large pieces, which i can't wait to see.

wow, preview is out and it's pretty mind blowing. love his use of the anatomy of the heart in his work this time. wish i could buy one of his wood sculptures but the fact that he didn't make it is still holding me back.

Looks like an incredible show - for both J Fish and J Keyes. Hand crafted by him or not, that is a very unique and creative piece from him. I typically agree about the artist's own technique going into one of his pieces, but I would make an exception for these - his work really shines in 3 dimensions.
