Kinda like her stuff and own some of her painitngs. She seemed like a really hot artist when she first came onto the scene but things have slowed a little it seems. Will be interesting to see how she sells. Why is it that artists show paint "too anime" don't seem to do as well in this scene? Or am I the only one to feel that way? Another flyer.

For me, it's not so much the anime thing... I just don't like the expression on their faces. Most of her girls look a little dimwitted, if you ask me. There are things I really like about her work, but that look prevents me from really falling for it.

Though her work is clearly anime-influenced, I think she has evolved that basic idea into a quite original direction, with compelling stories and characters, not to mention great painterly technique and really intense color. Despite the big eyes, it doesn't really say "too anime" to me. Hush's work is much, much closer to the traditional anime drawing style than Camilla's – there's no way you could avoid the comparison.
I really like her pieces like the one above with the sword, where the girl's gaze is direct and a little savage. Maybe it's something about the sideways glance and parted lips that she depicts so often... they make the girls seem submissive or coquettish, and I guess I don't really care for that point of view.

You kind of expect that from Hush though since he did anime design for years while living in Japan. I think that mixed in with the graffiti look is what really does it for me. Barring the print release fiasco at the show in London I think the work was amazing and I haven't heard a single person that saw the show in person say anything different. It turned me in to more of a fan.
