^^ the piece is by matthew brandt. it's from his lakes and reservoirs series where he photographs various bodies of water and soaks the print in water collected from each respective body of water for an extended period of time, ranging from a week to a month. the chemicals in water react with the chemicals in the photograph resulting in unique and brilliant levels of abstraction and color manipulation. really wonderful stuff. brandt is everything right about contemporary art at the moment imo..and arguably my favorite of the younger crop of groundbreaking photographers collectively gaining momentum right now. ingenious and progressive, fusing new and old techniques to produce striking and smart works.
the piece above is also by brandt. its the very first work from his original taste test series of half dome at yosemite. in this case, one of the first photographic printing techniques from the early 1800s is used. however, instead of using a traditional pigment with the gum arabic to achieve color when exposed to light, he substituted coco powder. the resulting imagery is quite literally made of chocolate, with subtle nuances to the saturation levels. amazing stuff..which lead to a series of screen prints the year after of the same image with various condiments and sauces such as bbq, cheese wiz and the like. the concept was further explore in color this spring with a different photograph from yosemite and instead using candy and the like such as laffy taffy, cake icing, etc. genius stuff.

Wow! So much great stuff here. Congrats on all the acquisitions!
Had to do some more reading on Matthew Brandt. Really amazing process and results. From the tree series where he made the paper out of branches from the trees and printed them w/ charcoal he made from burning the branches, to the Honeybee prints printed w/ bichromate made from the bees that he found dead due to colony collapse disorder. And I don't know how he gets prints to look so good when he prints them w/ PB&J or gummy bears. Truly fascinating stuff. The Count the Crows OG looks great, as does the Keyes TII. Is that a new acquisition as well?
Love the Houcks. Are they editions or unique pieces?
Out of everything I think the Jack Siegel Constellations might just be my favorite though. Something just keeps drawing me back to them. The framing is spot on as well.

Thanks. You are right about the Constellations. They're super special. The Houcks are both unique and Totem II is not new at all and been enjoying it since the original show.
And glad you were as impressed with Brandt's work too. One of the more intriguing artists working in this transgenre field of photography that is shattering arcane notions about the practice and not only legitimatizing it but establishing it as the more exciting movements in the art world right now. The Tree series definitely blew my mind on a conceptual level too. Unfortunately, they fell a little flat in person. The Bees works on the other hand were next level. Had I been made of money, I'd have added one to collection too. The Taste Tests in Color might be my favorite series he's done. Just the thought of screening gummy bears blew my mind.
