As you may or may not know I purchased a Thomas Doyle work about 7 months ago from Beau at Lebasse for my wife for xmas. When item arrived it was broken, beau could not have been more helpful and understanding he even promised to send me a photo from the new Doyle show at his gallery. Finally after much back and fourth the repaired piece arrived today and I am told photo will ship from beau, sadly I feel like it is still damaged. While the first time the women had broken off at the legs it appears this time there was damage either while repairing or shipping around the man who is in the rock. I have included to pictures to see what I am speaking about. i have emailed Beau both images and trust he will get back to me as he has been very helpful, the reason I am so disturbed by this is it was originally purchased as a XMAS gift for my wife, I cant win for loosing. Here is the original image how it arrived the first time, less the broken women ( image pulled from Doyles website ) Here is the man as he sits today ( you can see where he brought the rock up onto her leg to hide crack I think which I really like but the mans back I can not get past it ) \ am I looking to much into maybe just OCD but it is driving me crazy

is it the lighting, or is there white stuff around the man? (which doesn't appear to be there in the photo)

Looks like there is some white stuff. Perhaps more pics from a different angle?

Yes the white stuff appears to be broken, the mountain is made of styrofoam and it appears to be cracked at the base and not in the original form, the first picture was taken via Doyle and his website and now it appears to be altered after the " fixing "

Here are some other angels Wish I had images better from the first time sent as it was not like that the man looked as if he was complete in the rock now it looks very off with the white around him

That's really quite odd... not like Thomas at all. The repairs he's made for me were invisible and exactingly precise.

SO I AM NOT GOING OUT OF MY MIND correct i was told it would be flawless, just as purchased I know it is a smaller piece and the dollar amount is not sig. like his other works but it really feels odd that it would return like this and after 6 months of having it

Not going out of your mind at all. I think the best solution would have been if the rock was simply built over his torso. At least to the same point of his midsection where you can see the original (water) line of the figure. There is no impression that he is stuck in there at all. The original pic clearly shows where he should be encased. Hope it works out for you. 6 months is a long time to hold onto a piece.

And it is getting sent back to Thomas yet another time, I am very thankful for both thomas and beau who have been amazing to work with in this process, Ironic more money has gone into shipping the item back and fourth then I probably paid for the item

Unfortunately shipping work as fragile as Doyle's and with artists like Kris Kuksi sometimes bad things happen... The big pieces all went out crated and are in perfect shape...maybe we will send you a giant wood box for the little guy too. Thanks for the patience!

Again I can not say what a great and stand up gallery LeBasse has been regarding this whole matter, amazing with the level of customer service I would high recommend them to anyone as someone who stands behind a product.

What a cool little piece! What a shame! I think this illustrates something I learned in college... use archival media when ever possible. If its not in stable materials, breakdown occurs , if not sooner, then later. When I was "coming up" (3d) work not done in bronze or stone sold for less money, not just because of the initial cost, but the ability of the work to last far into the future. For a while I used plaster for my sculpture and everything that could go wrong did. They looked nice for a while.
