At Thinkspace's "Ink Advance" show Friday night, I discovered Acorn, a street artist who's been showing with Ghostpatrol and Miso in Melbourne, Vienna and Berlin. Together, the three of them have created a limited edition book of drawings titled Ink Advance, which was released earlier this year. Acorn, a.k.a. Scott Kennedy, originally hails from Vancouver, but has been living in Edinburgh recently and now seems to be traveling so much I imagine he's not sure exactly where he lives at the moment. Reports are that he's settling back down in Vancouver for a while. Apparently Acorn has only been drawing seriously for about four years (he's just 21), but he's already developed a really singular style and a cast of intriguing characters. For more ruminations on Acorn, you can visit my blog: commandax.blogspot.com/2008/05/acorn.htmlOr just head on over to Acorn's Flickr page and blog: flickr.com/photos/acornsgrow/oakyoh.blogspot.com/I can assure you that none of these jpegs are doing justice to the marvelous detail of Acorn's work. There are still some great drawings left over at Thinkspace, so get on over there and take a look! I first discovered his work via flickr, I love the tree stuff. He's also been really supportive of my own artistic development, which is always super encouraging especially from talented folk like Scott!

Here are a couple more Acorn drawings I just picked up. I love how his characters are so exotic and strange, but somehow friendly nonetheless. His detail is really intense – you nearly need a magnifying glass to see some of the costume design. "Tolkingwat" "forr_l"

Acorn's "Burghham" print is now available in the Ghostpatrol store. This was the drawing everyone was coveting at the Thinkspace "Ink Advance" show. It's printed on a really heavy off-white paper with unfinished edges. hand screen printed 250 gsm archival paper 56 x 75cm edition of 50, signed $80AUS + $12 for shipping. Buy here: ghostpatrol.net/menu.htm

Must admit, I stole that photo from someone else's Flickr page. I have this print, but haven't gotten around to framing it yet. I'm a fan of the Sharp Aquos, myself.

We're working towards getting ACORN over in early 2010 for a full and proper show in our project room and hopefully even something in 2009, but he's an international man of mystery who travels as much as I wish I could. Currently chillin' in Melbourne with Ghostpatrol... but on the move again soon. Just awaiting some works to return from a gallery in Romania and then he'll be getting us over some bigger, more proper full-scale works. So excited to get those in.

Plans underway finally, after much discussion, to host Acorn's debut LA solo show in May of 2010 in our project room - more on this as it develops. He'll be in LA soon for a visit, so watch the streets!
