According to Stellas blog:
"i'm sorry to announce that the only solo show i had planned in 2010, unfortunately, has been cancelled due to the plans of the gallery.
so the schedule had been adjusted accordingly. please see below (or here under SHOWS) for the new updated schedule for 2010.
.........................
{ 2010 Schedule } January :: Dark Pop 2. group show. LastRites Gallery. New York, NY February :: New Moon. group show. MyPlasticHeart Gallery. New York, NY April :: Custom Jibibuts group show. Munky King, Los Angeles, NY May :: Group Show. 111 Minna Gallery. San Francisco, CA June :: 12x12. group show. London Miles Gallery. London, UK July :: Crazy 4 Cult. Gallery 1988. Los Angeles, CA August :: Prop 8 Awareness Benefit show.Thinkspace Gallery. Los Angeles, CA. November :: 5th Anniversar group show. Thinkspace Gallery. Los Angeles, CA. November :: Group Show. London Miles Gallery. London, UK
+ please contact respective galleries in advance for preview lists, info & purchase.
.........................
hope you understand - i guess this happens! in turn, i'll be working hard on these group shows, as well as working on developing more works that are true to my heart.
hopefully this statement will stay safe : my next solo will be in march 2011 in london, so please stay tuned!
happy lunar (chinese) new year & valentine's day! ♥♥♥♥"
Anyone know what Gallery she was planning to show at? I wonder what plans led to the cancellation? That's a shame. I recall reading recently about someone trying to sell the original of "bruised" and finding that her market had "pretty much ground to a halt" - I believe that is how they put it. I forget which thread that was in. I wonder if this cancellation was a financial decision on the part of the gallery? Obviously, they have to survive as well in what seems to be tough financial times for many.
Personally, I have a lot of respect for Stella for wanting to break out of the mould that she seems to think that she may have been type-cast into. All the more so if it isn't the financially easy route to take.
Anyone in the know on this?

All the more so if it isn't the financially easy route to take. Anyone in the know on this? Not sure what the story or what gallery that was. Just because someone wasn't able to sell one of their pieces on the secondary market doesn't mean her "market had pretty much ground to a halt." All you have to do is look at how her last show did at Thinkspace at the end of last year: www.thinkspacegallery.com/2009/07/works.phpPretty respectable sales especially for this economy. Also, if you have followed her career, she's really expanded the mediums she has painted in and is always open to trying new things so not sure what "mold" you are referring to. Most artists don't change things so drastically so that you can't recognize their work anymore. Which I like actually. Of course, the disclaimer is that I probably have one of the largest SIH collections out there so take what I have to say with a grain of salt

don't get me wrong, i'm actually a fan of her work and own a few pieces myself (though nothing like your collection).
My comment about her seemingly feeling type-casted is just an impression I get from reading her blog and following her on twitter. (as a disclaimer, i don't know her and have never had any conversations with her) but here are a few of her more recent twitters:
""pretty" wasn't ever something i was going for - just somehow wound up seen that way. less pretty from now on, let's see how it goes."
"sadly some people want formula though. (or want you to have one.)"

Think I'd tend to agree with sleepboy on this. I've enjoyed seeing her work plus the format / medium develop of late. The thinkspace show looked great and sold well. I think the concept of a sell out show is pretty much unattainable right now as opposed to a couple of years ago in the boom times, except for a very select few artists. Stellas Market seems healthy to me, and I thought that she responded well to the economical climate with the thinkspace show, which shows that she must be still very marketable by galleries.
As for the solo cancellation, I did take a look at that gallerys upcoming schedule a couple of weeks back and must admit that I thought that stellas show and the other artist she was scheduled with was not sitting comfortably in the roster of artists and the direction that the gallery is heading.... Maybe this is better for both artist and gallery rather than go ahead with the show.
As a supporter of both this artist and the gallery that she was scheduled to show at, I think that this decision will benefit both the artist and the gallery. So I stlll respect the hell out of her work, but think that she needs the 'right' gallery to show in. I'm sure that there will be plenty of other galleries with offers to represent her forthcoming body of work.

no doubt! sucks that it is so far away but it should be really interesting when it arrives. in the meantime we'll have the pleasure of watching her evolution through her group shows, etc.

The piece she had for our show generated a healthy amount of interest so I can vouch for her continued popularity. Looking forward to seeing what she has in store for the rest of the year.
