Andrew has a show coming up with Merr Karnowsky Gallery in March, here´s a close up of one of the pieces from the show. Looks very promising, love his work with light and palette.

Here are some more images from Andrew's show, which opened last night at Merry Karnowsky Gallery. It was a real triumph for him. He just keeps getting better and better.

In keeping with the theme of artist's studios, he created an installation that brought his former Koreatown studio back to life, including a handful of paintings casually lying around which were also for sale. This was by far his biggest solo show to date, and represents three years of evolution and growth.

Interesting. The big portrait in the installation was recreated in the painting I bought from the show titled The Realist. You can clearly see it behind the young woman's head. I emailed Andrew and asked him who the seated young artist was, and who inspired the painting on the wall. His reply to me was that the artist was his old studio neighbor who was a realist painter and used to critique his work. Andrew also wrote that this was his first "bird's eye view" painting, and that he really liked the challenge. I'm not sure that I completely understood what he said about the portrait of the woman on the wall. Andrew did say that he had considered showcasing larger paintings of those found within the artist studio paintings. Of course, the large woman's portrait in the installation is also found in my artist's studio piece.

Last year, Andrew was considering doing a show of very large paintings, inspired by the paintings he painted himself painting in his painting "Bring Home the Bacon," which was his first in the studio artist series, and was based on Francis Bacon's studio in London. The painting in the installation (and in the background of your painting) was his favorite of the several large paintings he completed before deciding to continue pushing the smaller format.

Wow, these are stunning, He certainly has evolved as an artist. His color palatte is gorgeous. He captures light and emotion in a very special and magnificent way. Certainly another artist to be a aware. Does anyone know a place where is book is available?

The book is sold out on Amazon (and at the publisher), but someone would be glad to sell you a used copy for $1,235. Check on eBay, it seems they haven't gotten with the Amazon pricing program yet.

For the Oakland Museum… Looks like David Choe is painting at OMCA right now as well. I'd post the video I saw on Dave's Instagram, but it looks like it's just someone being whipped in a hotel room, ha! Anyhow, Super excited for this show (especially since it's down the street from my house!)
