Definitely a good buy Mute. The drawing sold too. The reason it was only slightly less than the commission was the framing job. Its floated in an archival frame with uv plexi. To answer one of the posts about his work: Tessar paints on an archival paper that is generally stretched. He then either mounts the pieces on wood, or I think moving forward will be framing them. The kid has some really great work coming out and shows coming up at 1988sf, Roq la Rue then back with us for his first solo next year. Still a few pieces from his recent show available too: projectgalleryla.com/lo.phpand a really killer interview: projectgalleryla.blogspot.com/2008/03/analog-color-interview.htmlNot sure who the tall guy in the hat is, but he seems pretty smart... here's my big Tessar piece: probably cant see it, but he puts these gold leaf flakes into parts of the painting...when the light hits it look out.

hey guys, i came across this a while back, and was kind of on the fence about joining. however, after much deliberation, i thought it would be a good idea to join and be available to you who are interested, to discuss process work or some upcoming projects i have that maybe i have not "released" into the world.
i am most thankful for all your kind words and support so far... i look forward to having some real discussion and sharing.
please please always be honest with me as i will always be learning and growing as an artist.
thanks again.

hey sybil! thanks... i am still working on your sketch, but it is coming sorry for being so swamped. but a little something i wanted to share with all you guys, something i'm working on right now for myself... to keep the blood flowing from all the serious commercial stuff i've been doing... trying to paint again, working up tones and then worrying about colour. i have been obsessed with values in work and the strength of a good composition. and .... s p a c e . the top is a bit cropped, but.. it kinda shows what's happening. back to work. *_*

thanks, it is a tree. here is today's installment. i don't usually start with burnt sienna, but i am taking a step back into my painting roots. i am trying to challenge myself by using inks a little more sparingly.

Wow, I kinda like how this turned out. There seems to be a story there. Is the girl looking for the tiger? It looks like it's trapped in the roots of that tree...like it was standing there and the roots grew really fast or they grabbed him...

I like it! Thanks for sharing the progress of it. I noticed you changed the size of the girl to match the scale of the tiger.

I saw this painting as it was being created, just fantastic. I think one of the most brilliant things about Tessar's work is how he merges a loosely influenced 'Japanesque' quality of decor with a western painter's spatial ambiguity, eliciting viewer subjectivity in the image. The textured, sandpapered(?) quality adds a subtle touch of fragility to the image that makes it feel tied to a precious moment of time we're all sharing when we see it.
And, let me personally say, Tessar is also one hell of a Mr. Goodtimes!

The amount of painting that's happening in that above piece is orgasmic.

Tessar will hopefully have a few new pieces at the Artwalk. We probably will not put them online until after May 31st, but they are fantastic.
Tessar and I are taking them to the framer this week, and I cannot wait to see them finished out.
