I'm a little jealous right now. I'm to chicken at the moment to ask any artist I like to do a commission, maybe its a fear of rejection or a lack of any good ideas.

I understand where you are coming from but you really should go for it. All the artists I have asked to do commissions have been really cool about it and actually really get into it. Tessar was amazing and so dedicated to making me a wonderful piece!

I went to the project: Insider Trading show today and couldn't take my eyes off this piece of Tessar's, "In Between." Apparently he is interested in exploring this softer, subtler direction at the moment, although he will still be doing some work in the more illustrative style we're all familiar with. This piece is quite large (about 24x36, I think), so some of the subtle shading and soft colors aren't really shown to full advantage here. It's just lovely. It seems to me that these musings that Tessar posted on his blog are pretty relevant to this new direction of his: "at night, sometimes i can see into parts of other worlds. not too much unlike my own, but the moon is brighter and sky is a huge northern light.
i know that this is the only true freedom i have. with my eyes closed and my mind's self running around; one moment in fields, the next in snow, mud, then sands.
when i have a hard time sleeping, i imagine i am on the surface of water and i start to sink. the feeling is warm and not scary at all. before long, i am amidst coral and strangely curious beings that are half fact, half fiction. still looking up, i see the abnormally luminous moon and the stars through the soft surface of the water.
if i listen carefully, i can hear a story of searching."

Nice, I really enjoy the new brighter color scheme he's using. That's not to say I want him to stop painting in the darker style but it's good to mix things up a little. So how many pieces did he have available? I'm hoping some of them make it to the online gallery so I have a chance.

Tessar had three big pieces in the main project: show (and several smaller, more illustrative pieces in the pop-up gallery across the street, but that was a one-day-only show for the Artwalk). The "Falls" piece with the white monkeys was one of them, and was still available when I left... It's about the same size as the one I posted, +/- 24x36, and just as beautiful as this one, with the night sky glowing in the water instead of overhead. For some reason, I'm blanking on the third one, but it was similar to these two in its color scheme and style. You should e-mail Beau and ask him to send you some jpegs, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to hook you up if they're still available.

love that "in between" you picked up. some old lady came up to beau later and i think she wanted to buy it the third piece diplayed on the wall was tessar's tree painting... with the tiger trapped in the roots and the girl up top looking for him tessar actually had 3 more large pieces in that main room but they weren't on the walls. they had them in the back where they keep the prints

Thanks, Marcus! Always good to know that the piece you bought was one of the ones other people liked. ;D Oh, forgot about those! They were beautiful, but very subtle... each of them was a girl's face melded with a starfield, like this one:

damn, so tempted by that samurai. also, tessar is trying out some sculpture. i think it's turning out really nice. i can recognize it as his work in the 3D form.

Tessar has three new pieces in the G1988 SF group show. I really like this one, "Waiting and Waiting." Those same massive tree roots from the progress pics he showed us earlier, but this time seemingly suspended in space... you can see the stars shining through it. Preview here: everyone1988.blogspot.com/

Here are some better pics of the pieces at Gallery 1988 from Tessar's blog (G1988's photos are washed out and out-of-focus, apparently) "Waiting and Waiting" "What Becomes of Her in the Middle"

A narrative is definitely beginning to form in Tessar's latest work, when you look at the pieces above beside these from the last month or so: "The Search May Bring Salvation" "In Between" "Falls"

i want Tessar's Yoka vinyl that will be at subtext this month during comic con.
He still has one of his "nightsight" series left at the gallery if anyone is looking for a beautiful original...

when a painting is redone like the ones in this show, is any kind of consent necessary?
