So I had a giggle that someone on expressobeans wanted $15,000.00 for his BALLAD print. I asked him if it was the original but he explained, no, it was indeed the PRINT and that it's value normally go for 1.5 times MORE than the paintings.

LOL! In that case, I guess you are lucky he isn't asking for $45,000!!

Ive heard of art flippers, but this seems a little ridiculous. These are open edition prints this seller is selling right? Kind of pricey huh? I feel bad for the person that buys them not knowing any better. shop.ebay.com/merchant/canyoodigit

Yeah...that clown already sold a Crayon Eater print for $179, and that's on the PR website for $52.
Not cool.

Hey All, I'm new to this forum, but not new to collecting the work of James Jean. It's been amazing watching his style evolve and his work used in so many diverse publications, mediums and products. In the spirit of sharing, you can take a look at the James Jean originals in my collection by going to my CAF gallery: cafurl.com?i=8043Does anyone else want to share any jj pieces in their collection? Sincerely, Constant

Wow, very nice... Is JJ all that you collect constant? I've been primarily collecting comic art, that's how I first noticed jj's work, on the covers to Fables. Funny thing about comics, they usually have beautiful covers, but average to mediocre interior art. With his stellar debut on the fine art scene, I think gone are the days of being able to pick up art directly from jj. Also, we're just not going to see his work as frequently, like we did with a monthly comic book. The plus to taking more time on his work is what we saw at JLG; incredibly polished, surreal, disturbing, and always beautiful. I would have loved to pick up a piece at JLG, but alas, I wasn't important enough or high enough on either one of their lists. I really liked Ballad and Toy Maker. Anyone else want to share any jj art? C'mon, sharing is caring!

I wish I had James Jean work to share. Stunning collection -constant- ... I am really jealous. I am particularly fond of the pencil drawings... they really show off his natural skill and abilities, what an incredible artist.

looking at jj's blog, I've noticed artists like Amy Sol and Audrey Kawasaki posting praise for jj. I think it speaks volumes to how much his work is admired and respected by not only us fans, but is a source of inspiration to members of the artistic community.

So I take it, he did that with illustrator or something on the computer..right?
If you look at his blog where he breaks down the process, the sketch reads "graphite", the drawing "acrylic and blue pencil", and the finished product "digital color, 4200 x 6300 pixels". I suppose it could be that he did in fact paint everything, sans the 'Fables' script and other cover text. But it almost seems as if he scanned the drawing and then rendered and finalized everything digitally. Not that it matters. Just intrigued by the process for these. It looks great!
Also, it looks like the drawing and the sketch was sold on in his webstore. Someone lucked out on that drawing. Anyone know what he sold them for? I wonder if he sold this cover more than his previous covers, as a result of his sold out show at Levine and/or it being his last Fables effort.

Unlike his Levine pieces, almost all of his Fables covers are altered in Photoshop. Read through his blog archives for process details.

You are absolutely correct in your statement. Many artists speak highly of him. Even Ryden, Peck, and Baseman have hung out with him just to talk shop. Regarding sharing, most of us haven't received our works from JLG yet. The show just closed. I'll post pics as soon as I get it in my anxious hands.

I'm digging James' Sally Jupiter pin-up for Watchmen. It actually showed up in the movie on the Comedian's wall. Open edition which is nice since my funds need to recuperate from Luke's recent blitz of prints, but how long do you guys think I can wait before getting one?
