Damn. Just love this piece. Boy do I wish I were in a crappy band and could call this my own. I'd give just about anything for a JJ painting. Now to become famous quick so I might have a chance at a commission.
If anyone out there isn't in love with their Levine piece (ha), is hard up for money (doubtful), or is more interested in another artist that I might be able to help out with, drop me a line.

I can't believe how effortless the transition from comic book covers to fine art has been for James. Well I can believe it because each piece he does is amazing, but damn he continues to blow me away with every new painting. I wish his new prints weren't so expensive. Oh well.

I was just doing some research on James Jean, and was so taken with this quotation that I just wanted to share it with you all. It's from an interview on ArtBeatStreet. "There are so many things that are visually incredible, like the bright colors of kids running around, beating each other up in the park, or that indecipherable white in the clouds in a dry, night sky. So the hardest part, for me, is getting over a sense of smallness I feel in the face of the beauty we are confronted with every day, and mustering up the nerve to do something halfway meaningful. I believe that limitations are liberating in a way, that one choice or mark can sort of guide you along the way to finishing a picture. What ends up happening is frustrating, surprising, disgusting, and rapturous."

I adore James Jean, but I agree, virtu, that painting isn't one of his best. If feels more like a sketch/study than a fully-realized piece. But in my book, he's earned one iffy painting. His skills are mad...mad I say!

The painting Consumption got a lot of negative responses on his blog. Can you elaborate why you don't like it? Very curious about why this particular painting got negative response. James stopped blog comments after the comments on this particular blog posting. I think it's one of my favorite pieces of his. It's dark and very mysterious.

i'd have to agree with chet. not that james has a shortage of amazing pieces, but i find that one a bit refreshing.

James Jean had his first TV interview on New Zealand Television this Wednesday on the mainstream music channel C4.
His gallery show would have opened tonight I wish I could have gone but I live in the capital & I think his show was held in Auckland :/
