I can't see Singletary's post, but I did see the huge Chihuly exhibit at the DeYoung a few years back. I was impressed with the sheer volume of it all, and the guy can obviously blow him some glass, but there wasn't anything "art" about it to me. Just colored glass arranged in weird ways.
...but there's a big market for that kind of stuff, especially in Northern California. I've seen exhibits on wicker baskets -- basic, run-of-the-mill wicker baskets -- that, since they were positioned with the hippy-slant of "hand-made reactions to the ever increasing influence of mass produced corporate blah blah blah" they were treated as "art." Nope, a basket is a basket, and Chihuly, a pile of glass is a pile of glass.
