1. Post pictures of your top 3 acquisitions this year.It would definitely have to include two photographic works. My third choice is too hard to call so I've literally selected it at random: Ryan McGinley Tim Barber Phil Frost 2. Best experiences?Probably Moniker as I got to meet and hang out with people from a number of international galleries that I've built relationships with from a distance. And discovering this forum, seriously. Such a breath of fresh air. 3. Biggest disappointments? Not making it to Miami this year despite having every intention of going. Spending 6 months dealing with the incompetencies of a gallery to complete the purchase of a Tauba Auerbach which I had spent 3 months prior to that researching and locating, only to be sent the wrong piece in the end. To make things worse they sold my piece to someone else. Their arrogance and lack of sympathy has been astounding and I am now and will probably always be without an Auerbach, 4. Who are your rising stars?Tim Barber, Kate MccGwire, Aurel Schmidt, and without a doubt Tauba Auerbach who will be up there with the best (and most unattainable) of them before long. 5. Best show of the year?London shows have been universally disappointing this year and I don't feel it's right to site a show that I've only seen online. However, Clare Rojas at the Ikon in Birmingham was a treat.

1. Post pictures of your top 3 acquisitions this year. Aaron Horkey : ISIS Minneapolis 07 (Thanks to those who said congrats in the newest acquisition thread ) Jason Hernandez : Surrender Nate Frizzell : Parliament Of Rooks 2. Best experiences? Finally getting a couple of Jason Hernandez pieces after missing out last year . 3. Biggest disappointments? Struggling through the year due to being a carer for my Mum . All purchases were made via sales or trades of other things. 4. Who are your rising stars? Charlie Immer , Eric Fortune & Martin Wittfooth . All fantastic already but along with Andrew Brandou & Vania Zouravliov , top of who I'd love to own something by . 5. Best show of the year? Cockney Visionary : Austin Osman Spare A rare glimpse at a relatively large collection of his work from private collections . Totally blew me away with raw talent , 2011 will be spent tracking down some of the rarer books at least .

Post pictures of your top 3 acquisitions this year.my trio of james jean paintings (in no particular order):Secret. 2005. Dancers. 2010. Twelve Head. 2009. honorable mention:A Murder of Thirteen. Christina Empedocles. 2010. Best experiences?Arranging for a commission from joe sorren. He has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. An all around great guy. Getting "to know" everybody on this incredible forum. Hopefully, i'll have the privilege of meeting some of you in the not too distant future. It has been a real learning experience for me. I'm often amazed at the collective knowledge that congregates here. Participating in my first Artchival Secret Santa! I hope my selectee enjoys his/her present! (jeez, i keep having to come back and add on best experiences) Biggest disappointments?None that I can think of. I have received a lot of enjoyment as a beginner collector over the past year or so. Who are your rising stars?honestly, i don't know. i don't think that i am savvy enough yet to be able to pick an artist with "star potential". all i know is what appeals to me. Best show of the year?Joe Sorren, Interruption, Grand Central Art Gallery I don't think I fully understood the power of these works until I saw them in the flesh. I was floored to be perfectly honest. image from www.arrestedmotion.com

no kidding... epic... the james jeans are amazing, empedocles... wow! and to top it off: SORREN! (I think I need to move to another forum... this is too much for me... seeing those might give me that sudden delirium you get when somebody smashes you in the head with a bottle of wine after too much drinking... not that that has ever happened to me... but you know... )
anyway, stunners... all of them. congrats!

Screw it... some of these are still in payments... would like to include more (not only three) since I have been able to get the chance to house some fantastic pieces... but, all in all... these three (and a hidden one, can't really say anything about that one now...) are close to my heart... all of them actually are... Will later on (next year) start a thread w/my collection... once everything has settled, art is hanging on walls, things are fully paid... Post pictures of 3 acquisitions this year. (I am going to leave out the word 'top'... just too hard to decide, sorry) These mean a lot to me... my dad had a heart attack this year (Tete), I am trying to overcome fears, stay positive, live freely not be afraid of change, take my chances, escape... (Leap), and lastly, anxiety overcomes my day to day activities at times (For Everything Bad...), Jeff nailed it with this one... plus, he is an all around great guy... Laurie Lipton: Tete a Tete Berens: Leap Jeff Ramirez: For Everything Bad That's Ever Happened Best experiences?Andrew at thinkspace... he gave me that push I needed to start collecting. Thank you (or maybe not??? I am broke!!! ) Biggest disappointments?None... Who are your rising stars?James Jean... although he is already on top; not rising... or, for a better word, not coming down... astounding. Best show of the year?Unfortunately, living in Houston doesn't give me the chance to go to many shows... but, thinkspace... rules... and visiting Laurie at La Luz... wow! Wish I had gone to Sorren's retrospective...

1. Post pictures of your top 3 acquisitions this year. Just prints for me this year, though after contemplating how much I spent on prints and framing, 2011 might be the year I target an original or two instead. Nate Frizzell - To See Her Like You'd See A Star Tran Nguyen - What The World Doesn't Know Jeremy Geddes - Small White Cosmonaut And an honorable mention for the print that got me hooked on all this amazing art: Audrey Kawaskai - Yuuwaku 2. Best experiences?Seeing the work of many of the artists I admire in person for the first time at the High Fructose 5th Anniversary show. Getting some sketches in my copy of Hunt & Gather at the book signing at Thinkspace Seeing Yoskay Yamamoto's work up close at LeBasse Finding The ARTCHIVAL message board! 3. Biggest disappointments?Passing on this print: Nate Frizzell - Isn't it Smart to Be as Strong as the Bear, If There is a Bear? Having to move back to DC where I will not have access to all the great art that comes through L.A. 4. Who are your rising stars?I've only been following along for about a year - they are all rising stars to me! 5. Best show of the year?Josh Keyes' 'Collision' at David B. Smith Gallery - awe inspiring!

sweet prints bad. we must have similar taste because i love all of those and grabbed most of them myself. one thing i noticed is that when i started out mostly collecting prints it was costing so much to frame them, that i realized if i hadn't bought 4 or 5 and gotten them framed i could have had a pretty cool OG from one of the less expensive artists, like tran nguyen. it sounds like you noticed that yourself. i think i was in a race to get stuff on my walls, but it's something to consider.

That is exactly the revelation that I had. And I would have loved to purchase the original of the Tran Nguyen print, but by the time I made it to the show, it had been sold.
Here's to more patience in 2011!

Laurie Lipton: Tete a Tete Berens: Leap Jeff Ramirez: For Everything Bad That's Ever Happened these are awesome. i love the variety of the three, all from incredible artists. i've been wanting to see a lipton in the flesh as i imagine the detail is incredible. berens....nuff said! so you were the one that scored that ramirez piece! love it. i have one of its sister pieces from the series. they're awesome - would be fun to see all 3 together. jeff seems like a great guy as well. are you going to frame yours? looking at this larger pic of your berens piece, i bet the colors just glow in person...

thank you peetov, Weekender and epic... I am happy to house these beauties. they mean a lot to me. I try to make a personal connection w/them and usually think about the ones I already have (I think in pairs... ha... it is funny). For example, Jeff's piece (which is astounding in the flesh) will go next to another piece that incredibly evokes the same emotions (subject is almost in same position). Laurie, well, I have another drawing that evokes death, or confrontation w/death, or surviving death (you choose - BTW, I don't think Laurie's work should be considered 'drawings'... her work is truly amazing, puts to shame most of artists who use colors). And, Berens... well, this is the only one that doesn't have a pair... yet.... working on it as we speak. Although, I think it could also go by itself on the wall... it is pretty impressive and rich in color (by itself). Many thanks to all... happy to finally put something up. Oh... badcatgary... I have that Tran Nguyen's print as well. I also missed the original... My favorite of the show; I guess everyone's, that is why it was turned into a print. Thank you all...

Hey churdiales, all three of your pieces are great! Really liked Jeff's piece and the Berens piece is wonderful. I don't know any of his work but this has made me an instant fan, what is the medium, is it paint or digital? I can't tell from the picture. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, yes, I think Palladino's special. He has a bright future ahead as he has the killer instinct and potential to execute well in his unique paintings. His works look so original considering that I've been to many shows and Palladino's works still stands out. The 3 faces McGee was something special as I acquired it from a benefit at such a great deal that it's definitely illegal to post it anywhere on the internet. Anyway, your Beren piece is pretty magical and I'd like to know what medium was used in it?
