Hello,
So a couple of years ago, as I was just finishing secondary school, I started work on a project that really meant a lot to me and I was really proud of, at one point it even looked like I had a gallery space in London where I could show this project, but after talks with the gallery diminished, I am ashamed to say that it was put on hold, and kind of forgotten about. But I would now more than ever really like to do something for it, I have 17 pieces by some amazing artists and I wanted your advice and input on where to take this now, basically I’m asking for help!
The original work is so lovely and I feel that these pieces of art could do so much good, so I am looking for ideas and input from all of you, I am tempted to just sell the works or raffle them and donate the money, but I am interested in all your ideas as I think that exhibiting would be really fantastic, or even if that didn’t happen, I wouldn’t even know the best way to go about selling the work..
I apologise profusely to the artists whose work I have had for so long, but it has been stored safely and is all in pristine condition.
Below is the original writing that I sent out when I first started the project:
‘I, along with the artists involved, realise the difference that being able to draw has made on our life. I know, that if I could never simply pick up a pen or pencil, and just loose myself in my drawings, I would be a completely different person. The fact that kids all around the world, are deprived of the opportunity to be creative, to me anyway, is a crime. We aim change that, through this non-profit project, we will be able give hundreds, if not thousands, of children the chance to have the experience to do what we love. Through us, they will be able to make art.
Each artist will be sent a piece of handmade paper (made by me) similar to this one: farm4.static.flickr.com/3285/2605320312_3e6b083e57_b.jpg Each piece of paper is made of recycled book pages, and has a rough side, and a smooth side. The pieces are approximately 10x17 cm.
The artists will create something beautiful on the paper and send it back to me. I will then photocopy the paper, and the pictures of the pieces, along with a small piece of writing by/about the artist, will be made into a zine. I will then sell the zines. I will also exhibit the pieces in a gallery, and they will be sold, via silent auction.
All of the money raised will go to buy pens, pencils, paint, paper and a variety of other art supplies for less fortunate children around the globe.
There are no specifics to what each artist does on the paper, it could be a small doodle, an intricate sketch, a painting, a stencil, anything they want!’
And the artists I have work by are:
GVD
Dale Grimshaw
The Toaster
Hutch
Dred
Agent Provocateur
Laura Keeble
Indigo Child
Tek 13
SPQR
Jeepers
Martin Whatson
Grafter
