I didn't even know there was a thread for this. I'll fight the urge not to list more than 5.
1.Mark Ryden 2.Nicoletta Ceccoli 3.KMNDZ 4.Sylvia Ji 5.Stella Im Hultberg
Here are a couple I had to leave off but I think in time could make the list(Tessar Lo,Sarah Joncas).

Ah, that's a tough question ... but here goes:
1) Margaret Kilgallen 2) Barry McGee 3) Tiffany Bozic 4) Josh Keyes 5) Joe Sorren
I think my taste is a reflection of where I like (Bay Area), since my top 4 live in the Bay Area, and Joe Sorren has shown locally at 111 Minna.

Not sure exactly how to answer this question as the answers seem to list artists in the scene we are interested in. However there are some artists that inspired me to be interested in art in the first place. There are also, architects that produce art that is different from what is seen here. These 3 groups are hard to intertwine for me.
"lowbrow/street art scene"
Barry McGee Sam Flores Damon Soule Brendan Monroe Daim
"other" list
El Greco Hieronymus Bosch Edward Hopper MC Escher Peter Saenredam
Then there is architectural art
Paintings of Zaha Hadid Drawings of Wiel Arets Drawings of Peter Salter Drawings of Lebbeus Woods Drawings of Wes Jones
Not sure how I would combine lists

I think you'll most likely drop #5.
My list is very much affected by the size of my wallet. Just a realistic way for me at the moment. And my list will stay quite constant for quite a long while.

matthew palladino is definitely one to keep an eye on. yes, i was fortunate to give him a ride to his home and show me his older works as well as his cramped bedroom at his folks' home. he told me that he was going to go into a new direction from his previous shows. after visiting, i've managed to buy one of his old pieces and he gave me a few small nice stuff. a week later, i bumped into him and his buddies at a bar... gave them a nice round of drinks... such a delight to interact with him... hope he finds what he wants in big apple... hard to believe that he's THAT young with that talented hand...

Ok, I'll play.....
(0. Mark Ryden - Giving him his due respect as the main progenitor - for me personally (aside from R. Williams) - of this subculture of artists, and arguably my favorite living artist. But in a need to keep him superseding the rest, as I know I could never realistically afford a sizable original painting, and this list is only comprised of artists I could purchase original work from as I don't collect prints...even though Ryden is the only exception to that rule and I do everything I can to collect any Porterhouse releases.)
1. Jeff Soto 2. Greg Simkins 3. Scott Musgrove 4. Josh Keyes 5. Naoto Hattori
Runner up: 6. Matt Dangler
Honorable mention: 7. Brian Despain 8. Johnny Rodriguez (KMNDZ)
---------------
It's interesting how quickly these things can change, huh? I thought I'd leave the above for reference sake, as it's interesting and amazing to me even.
Here's a revised list:
1. Josh Keyes 2. Greg Simkins 3. Scott Musgrove 4. Ian Francis 5. Chris Berens 6. Jeff Soto

#1. Aaron Horkey #2. Mark Ryden #3. Audrey Kawasaki #4. Tin #5. Amy Sol
Craola is insanely talented I've just never seen a piece by him that really fired on all levels for me. I assume eventually that will happen and I can see him skyrocketing for me at that point. I used to be really into Amy Sol but her work (for me) has gotten a bit repetitive lately. On the other hand, I think audrey kawasaki has really expanded and the stuff from her new (Rome) show is my favorite yet.
