You certainly don't see them often. So wish I had acted on this, along with my true Holy Grail in terms of artwork (original or print), a Princess Sputnik framed canvas print. I remember a few years back these were both still sub-$10k. I suppose 2-3 years is a long time, especially for an artist like Ryden and especially after how quickly all his pieces in The Tree show went considering their prices. I was inches from away from pulling the trigger on a canvas Sputnik on eBay a few years back for like $10.5k. I think when considering the "Regrets" thread, this has to be near the top for me. Meanwhile, I had a friend - who's judgement on art I trust - telling me that it was insane for me to be considering it for that price and that I could get an original drawing at that price. I guess I just always viewed my hunt for a Sputnik (even then..now even more so) as the closest I would get to a Ryden "original", in that I could never afford a legitimately sized painting and it's from such as small edition. Personally, Ryden drawings do nothing for me. And now I'm scared to think what a canvas Sputnik would go for, considering it's only an edition of 25 and is hands down one of his most iconic paintings, imo. Man, do I regret not pulling the trigger on the one I had a chance at. Now, it's almost certainly out of my reach. The asking price on the original was $35K and went unsold for a while - I believe it eventually sold for $27K. This is quite interesting info. You have any idea what the original Princess Sputnik sold for?

You have any idea what the original Princess Sputnik sold for? Hey there - I have a Princess Sputnik giclee - she's so beautiful! Its the first thing I look at everyday when I come out in the morning - partly because of where she's hanging and mainly because its ritual - it makes me happy! I don't know what it is about that piece - it sounds like whatever it is, that you "get it" too. The original Princess Sputnik had an asking price of $22K - it sold relatively quickly so I'm guessing pretty close to the mark on that one. jIm

I definitely get it, and so wish I too could wake up every morning to the magic that is Princess Sputnik. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous! Who's got a time machine I can borrow and go back and win this auction all over again?!?! I won't even abuse the privaledges to go back and get one at retail. Ha. I'll happily pay the marked up price. Darn it. That's quite the steal on the original painting. Best $22k ever spent, imo. Ha. I know - or at least am fairly certain - the Princess Sputnik print was reproduced in the same dimensions as the original painting. It seems that was the case for the Angel of Meat framed canvas print too. Is that correct?

Wow - seems I've met someone with the same level of passion I have for the Princess (didnt think that possible)! If memory serves me correct - the original Angel is about 4-5 inches larger all around than the edition. jIm

You have any idea what the original Princess Sputnik sold for? There was a limited edition of Princess Sputnik on paper (unframed) but the edition was retired. If I remember right the paper edition was 200 but only about 50 were produced. The deluxe framed canvas edition was released about 6 years or so after the paper Ltd. release. Keep an eye open, they pop up every so often below $3000.

Wow - seems I've met someone with the same level of passion I have for the Princess (didnt think that possible)! Haha. I think the only reason I still habitually search eBay everyday (and multiple times a day...I know, it's a disease) for Mark Ryden is to happen upon a canvas Sputnik that somehow I am the only eBay member that can see it is listed and am able to win it for the list price...which is conservatively listed at $8k. Aside from a Little Star, I think I'm fairly contented with my Ryden collection...ok, not really. Actually, not at all. There were so many AMAZING Porterhouse releases back in the day, all of which were just before I started collecting. To think that most of these prints were available for months at a time before selling out. It's amazing how far this genre has come and how insane the furious-F5, server-crashing print releases have become. I have heard of one or two accounts of the corners of these canvas Angel of Meat prints starting to peel back over time, and needing to be professionally restored. It is such an intricate frame for a canvas to be stretched over that in a sense it's excusable...if you were to have only paid $1k for it at retail. But when purchasing something that is nearly $20k, it's something to keep in mind. Have you heard of this occurring as well, Jim?

My infatuation with the painting and the ensuing canvas edition has made me well aware of these. For various reasons, I've just never been interested in the paper version. Might be strange. But it's a canvas Sputnik or not Sputnik for me. I'll settle for the original as well.

I remember "Jajo" sitting around forever for $200. I was just looking at some of my invoices - "A Dog Named Jesus" - $318.00 shipped! LOL I've not heard of that issue with the "Angels"....hmmm jIm

Then you saw the one last December, right before xmas sell for $18.5K - it went up in the afternoon and someone hit the BIN either that night or the next morning. jIm

I'd kill for one of the canvas edition Dog Named Jesus prints..and for $300, WOW! The only canvas Porterhouse print I own - which luckily is by far my favorite (aside from Ms. Sputnik, obviously) - is Butcher Bunny. One of my absolute favorite pieces hanging on my walls. The quality of their canvas editions was simply superb. I know it'll never happen again, but I'm itching for a new framed canvas giclee....maybe a scale reproduction of Yoshi from The Tree Show. Or a Ghost Girl.

If I had a Ryden wish, it was for big beautiful full color giclee of "The Tree of Life". Sadly, (IMO) we know the way that one went. jIm

I have a Sputnik canvas - #25, in fact. She's beautiful!! But I would really like a Creatrix giclee to complement the princess... What's it going to take for you to let her go?!!?! Anything?!?! Jk. I know it's not going anywhere. But if either of you are either hard pressed for funds, you know where to come.
