The "Gardens of Misfortune" show with Chris and Jonathan Bergeron at Yves Laroche is pretty amazing. Nearly all of Chris' pieces sold immediately, so if you're thinking about any of them you might wanna jump on that pretty quick.... www.yveslaroche.com/en/exhibits_current.php?id=24They've also got exclusive giclee's of these two pieces: "Oviparity" 21" x 20" "Mycelism" 15" x 14" I saw all of these in person before they got shipped off to Montreal and was absolutely blown away....wish I could have made it up to see Johnny's work in person too!

Chris' new book, "Shadows In The Periphery", is being released at his table at Dragon*Con. From his Facebook: "Foil-stamped hardcover, 70+ pages filled with over 60 images including paintings, sculpture, toys, process and inspiration PLUS a forward by Mr. Jeff Soto!" I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing these in person...Chris has been talking about 'em for a while and he's pretty excited with the final product. From the image, it looks like they did an amazing job on the cover. Very cool!!!

Are those textures on the cover printed, or is the actual cover distressed? It looks amazing.

Are those textures on the cover printed, or is the actual cover distressed? It looks amazing. I have no idea. Still haven't seen one in person....they're being shipped straight from the printer to Dragon*Con, so I won't see one until Chris gets home. I hope they're actually distressed....that would totally make my year. Cannot WAIT to get my hands on one of these....apparently it's got everything up to and including the Yves LaRoche show. Chris pushed this through HARD to make it as current as possible when it hit shelves. Amazing.

Talked to Chris earlier, the cover is printed to look that way....not actually layered and distressed. He wanted to try and have some hand-bound versions that would be super de-luxxe, but didn't quite happen. He was flipping through it while we were on the phone, though, and he's blown away. Knowing how particular he is, I think that's a pretty good sign. He'll have 100 copies at Dragon*Con, and the rest will go online for sale once he gets home. Edit: Available now, only direct from Chris: chrisryniak.bigcartel.com

Got to peek at a few of his pieces for his upcoming Copro show in February, and they all look amazing. His layering is getting better and better. He also announced somewhere (Circus Posterus board?) that he's going to have 6 one-off Freyjas for that show. He's also got a piece in the "LOST" theme show that's opening at G1988 shortly...for some reason I can't link the image directly, but it's on Chris' blog here: eatthefuture.blogspot.com/2009/12/lost-in-your-eye.htmlAnd he's doing an almost entirely sculptural show at MyPlasticHeart in 2010, which should be pretty cool. He's been talking about wanting to do that for a while, glad he found a venue for it.

Just a head's up, Yves Laroche bought some of his originals and they're for sale through the gallery. I'm not sure how much they have, or what the prices are, but the one piece I inquired about was going for $2,600 (USD).

So does this mean Laroche is buying paintings from a show and then resell it for a higher (i assume) price?

I don't think they are. The piece I inquired about is slightly larger, and less expensive, than the Lost one. I just realized that the pieces at Laroche are form his show with Johnathan Bergeron "Gardens of Misfortune"...as mentioned in the second post...so discard my question The lost piece looks great. But I'm, however, not a fan of the series so the complete meaning is not clear to me...

Love the LOST painting. Out of my budget, at the moment. Hoping to swing for one of his smaller works soon.
