I'm moving out of the LA area soon and am looking to get a few paintings boxed or crated in the LA area in order to protect them during the move. Can anyone recommend someone that can do this professionally? Thanks!

Awesome, lots of new things coming in the near future.
-America's Cup, prelims at the end of the year I think, and finals at the end of next year, lotsa new stuff being built around the water in preparation for that. -Transbay center is going to start construction soon and highspeed rail if that ever gets approved. -Golden State Warriors is moving to SF in 2014 (or 2015?) and they're building a stadium for them on the pier. -Uniqlo opening a store in Union Square, yay. -Startups are migrating towards SF (from Silicon Valley). -SFMOMA is getting an extension, but will be shut down temporarily during construction. (http://www.sfmoma.org/our_expansion/expansion_design)
-Rent here sucks.

Moved to LA from SF. Awesome. There is great architecture with truly epic views. I had a corner office on the penultimate floor of 4 Embarcadero across from the Ferry Building. The floor to ceiling view of the Bay Bridge from one window and Alcatraz, Sausalito and the Golden Gate on the other I could never just get used to. And summiting Pacific Heights (I lived in the Marina) took my breath away every single time. There's a great Nor Cal vibe, funky shops, world class restaurants and a more developed art scene than when I was there. I really missed it for a long time after I left, except for December through March when it is the 70s here. But talking about it I miss it all over! Youre going to have a great time living there!

I live in LA, this is who I use to ship expensive art work... www.cratersandfreighterslosangeles.com/They build a custom crate for your art (there a photos on the site) and they will pick up your art as well. I've had very large James Jean and Sashie Masakatsu paintings sent to me through them and have had a large Craola painting crated and sent to Flordia by them. Not cheap, but worth it.

Cookes Crating handled the shipping of a Camille Rose Gracia that I lent for the San Jose Museum Exhibit a couple years back. Cookes Crating and Fine Art Transportation, Inc. 3124 East 11th. Street Los Angeles, CA 90023 Telephone: (323) 268-5101 ~ Fax: (323) 262-2001 cookescrating.com/More recently lent a Martin Wittfooth to a Museum Exhibit in Europe, and that was handled locally by Masterpiece International. I dealt with a super helpful Kate Crutsinger there. Master Piece International 615 N. Nash Street, Ste. 300 El Segundo, CA 90245 Tel: 310-643-7990 Fax: 310-643-7991 lax@masterpieceintl.com www.masterpieceintl.com/Not sure the cost of either, but both did a great job.

Are there any similar companies in SF? Would be good for future reference while we're listing them.

Welcome to SF. Not cheap, but there is a reason for that. What neighborhood?
