Over the past couple of months I have started working on my own art as an outlet. Nothing worthy of talking about yet, just trying to learn how to use everything still.
With that in mind I am looking for forums that cover thing like technique, different types of paint and why they are better or worse, stuff like that.
Does anyoneone have any suggestions?
Craig

Hi Craig, This might be a helpful site to explore. I visit this one from time to time. www.artforums.co.uk/forums/index.phpA couple more www.wetcanvas.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=10www.artistdaily.com/forums/I have also found that if there are certain artists who interest you, you can often contact them through facebook or their email to chat about materials and techniques. Most are open to discussing what materials they use. Also, youtube is a great place for quick how to's. When you have some work to share I would enjoy seeing what you do. Cheers

I'm not an artist so most of it goes way over my head but I would check out James Gurney's blog/website. He has a TON of practical info for artists on there. gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/

Without seeing your work it is difficult to be sure I'm in the right ball park but as well as James Gurney's site (which is excellent) I would try rationalpainting.org/This site is aimed primarily at the professional realist and has some truly outstanding painters posting regularly on materials and techniques. The bias is toward classical realism but others - such as myself - who paint in a more pop surrealist fashion are more than welcome. The main criteria is to be passionate about learning and promoting 'skill' in the art world. Don't be afraid of applying even if you're relatively inexperienced as not every member is a professional. It's a bit of a closed shop but worth it for the expert advice therein. Good luck! Edited to add: www.artandartistry.com/ This is another good site that was started by the founder of Rational Painting. More accessible, it might be a better starting off point until you are more confident with materials. I hope that doesn't sound patronising. Join both, I did.
