A group exhibition curated by Sven Davis

Opening Reception: Thursday, September 6th, 6-10pm

Space//Form centers around notions of the architectural landscape. Over 100 of the most relevant young contemporary artists were each given an identical 10×10 inch panel and invited to create a work depicting their interpretation of space and form within either the constructed or the natural environment. The exhibition will be accompanied by integral installations by Mark Dean Veca and Michael Murphy. Curator, Sven Davis, has worked in architecture for over 20 years and is the UK Director for the internationally staffed online arts magazine, Arrested Motion.

Curatorial statement:
Space//Form explores the constructed and natural environment while also serving as a comparative exercise in how different individuals respond to a single set of prescribed criteria. All of the participating artists were given the same commission guidelines and an identical surface material to work with. Each unique interpretation of the brief has led to the creation of a new artwork specifically for the show. The disciplines of art and architecture traditionally enjoy a symbiotic relationship, and the parallels run deep between the conception and realization of an architectural project and the Space//Form exhibition itself.

I'm genuinely excited about the whole thing, and the work i've seen so far is fantastic - the artists have really embraced the brief, and the show as a whole.

Plenty of artists will be at the opening evening (as will I) and I just got off the phone with Carl Cashman and he's coming out for the opening from the UK too.

That is one of the best aspects of shows like this one that exhibit a large number of artists. I was struck by the painting by Seonna Hong. I was so taken by her piece that I spent a bit of time web searching to find out more about her life and art. This piece was a bit out of my price range or I might have considered buying it. Nonetheless, I greatly enjoyed learning about someone new (to me).

This is such a great show you put together Sven!

I was looking at the preview over and over and over again, and really enjoyed it. Totally agree with Trewman about big shows being a great way to discover new artists. I wouldn't mind trying my luck with Aakash or Dabs Myla, but those ones were first to go. Also, was seriously considering Gonzales piece, but just can't get over bird's angry expression somehow. Other than those, I must say that Carl Cashman's piece stood out for me.

Seriously one of the nicest shows I've seen in a while! Congrats to everyone involved.

Oh, and the hanging perspective photo of a piece should be a MUST at all previews!

scott and tim - thanks for the support. we really appreciate it! you both picked really nice pieces.
cheers sal for the kind words. we did put a lot of effort in and i hope it shows. the perspective shot i agree is a must. well worth the cost of setting up a legit photoshoot in order to convey the depth / perspective of the work. I've bought art via jpg for years, and i find that this extra bit of effort from the gallery helps a potential collector appreciate the work that much more.
