Figured someone should start one on him, I know he is not showing anything upcoming per his site, but I am proud owner of two of his works and one group work and figured we should open it up for him here. If I knew how to post pictures I would.

a) I'd contacted him about those a bunch of times and was supposed to be on some special list for them. Good thing I didn't actually pre-pay. b) I can't believe you're supposed to pay $800+shipping without even seeing the one you'll get. The remaining 22 aren't even all white, some are black or silver. (at least in last pic he showed)

I am not sure. I think if I was still crazy about his work I'd be more lenient/undestanding, but the lack of communication and the money up front but find out what you get later really rubbed me the wrong way as well.
edit: it's probably the same thing as some people's frustration with Luke Chueh. Nothing a very professional manager wouldn't solve. The one time I met Blaine in person he was super nice.

i love Blaine's work too, but very slow on email response and follow thru. Don't think I would prepay for anything without seeing it 1st. It took almost 3 months for me to get my ltd. fan kit, he sent a little something extra for the wait.....don't get me wrong I know people get busy, but....I'm just saying.... and exactly "Nothing a very professional manager wouldn't solve."....not sure why more artist's don't or choose not to invest in that service? It would greatly reduce the likelyhood of such complaints

i like the bottom one. the face of the girl at the top is pretty unnattractive and ruins the whole thing for me.
i adored his show at Limited Addiction.

Concerning about Blaine's slowness to correspondence, I have communicated with him a couple of times and yes, he can be slow in his communications. There were a couple of times he replied straight away (he has emails via his iphone now) and there were times where I thought he had dropped off the face of the earth. Saying that he had come through for me all these times and was super nice in all his replies. He even sent me a free print once, not for anything but to thank me for supporting his art. Concerning about his latest artworks, I agreed with masao. I love the Risen painting (how I wish I have the money to pick that up) but Acclimation looked somehow weird to me. Maybe I am so used to his templings and animals images that a painted human image that does not resemble an elemental (like those heads from the Whisper or Breath paintings) looked strange in my eyes. If Blaine continues his evolution towards his art in the direction of "The Risen", I will be waiting to pick up some smaller pieces. If his art evolves into female figures like the one above, I might have to sit it out.

Love the Fontana collection. I have only had one dealing with him, and it was a fan kit. Ordered just after xmas. He got in touch with me a few weeks later, finally got it in my hands end of Feb ( or so ) but have to say he did something amazing for it and let me know to be on the look out for it. He makes them as they are ordered so if one is ordered while he is getting a gallery show ready then you may have to wait. I heard stories of people waiting 4 or 5 months but I have to say he was a pleasure to deal with and I could not have asked for more out of my fan kit. Lets just say I dont own a Fontana watercolor. Other piece was from the limited show.

LOL, i guess we have a pretty big collector of Blaine Fontana too, i forgot about you. We can add you to the list of forum member's with focused collections. I like the stuff in your collection alot more than his two newer pieces. But in terms of my personal taste, I just don't like the collage feel to his work I suppose. Would love to see you post your whole collection up in the "member's collection" section so that we have more stuff to drool over.

Highbrow...I am unsure what happened to him. He was one of the first artists I took a real liking to when I started to collect OG art. He really put out a lot of work and then all the sudden the quality of work seemed to suffer and then he disappeared. It's a shame. Maybe he is just sticking to the vans designs and more graphic design corporate stuff. I have a few larger pieces, which are taking up a good portion of wall space. I look at them and wonder where he went, but they also serve as a sort of homage to my collecting roots

It was Blaine and Sam Flores who really got me into collecting art. I still have this piece which I love just a much as I did then but I can't say I appreciate any of his later stuff.

Honestly, I've never liked his stuff to begin with. So it's kind of hard for me to respond when you say what happened to him. I think It's all the same awful stuff. I do think that he payed the way for this movement, and now his time has passed. Just my opinion.
