Not sure if this was common knowledge yet, but the 7 pieces will be priced at $400 and are 8.5"x11". that sounds like pretty good prices.

Nice. $100 cheaper than I was expecting. Hopefully that means I'll be able to pick up another piece too.

Well that was quick. Pretty impressive. Might've grabbed one if I hadn't completely forgotten about the preview today.

I loved Pixel and Feeling Bottom - i'm really, REALLY obsessive about the faces of people in paintings and in my opinion they were the most beautiful. two beautiful colored pieces from tin's blog: also, has anyone read his post? my heart almost stopped: "thank you to everyone that bought my art at gallery 1988 !!!!!!...when galleries ask me to set prices on my art -its always uncomfortable for me.my standard answer is "whats important to me is the art needs to have a home.please use your experience to set a price that insures that they will not be sent back to me unsold.".....what i dont tell galleries is---any art that comes back to me unsold has a date with fire...i havent had to burn anything yet....wonderful collectors keeping a pyro from having fun.

Yikes! Tin don't play with fire. You can always send them to me instead. At the moment I'm anxiously waiting for his piece from the Roq La Rue Tenth anniversary to arrive home.

LOL. Wow, that's an interesting policy...no wonder the paper pusher pieces are so reasonably priced. I think that's the way to go because it must be such a pain to get back unsold pieces... Then what do you do? Put it in another show...but then people will know. I guess keep it for yourself... Or burn it ;D

i'm sure he knows there'd be a line of people who would quickly buy up any of his unsold "surplus". the fire-ritual is an interesting approach - makes me sad

He's not the only one who does that, . . . I usually destroy my unsold pieces too.

I just wanted to take them out of circulation. Burning the pieces is like a cleansing ritual. I try not to show the same work in different venues, . . . I think it's a bad idea.
I've only done it once. My painting "Pals", was shown at an art fair, . . . but the gallery placed the piece really high up on the wall, where no one could see the details, No one knew I even had a piece there. . .After the show closed, I sent it to Gary Pressman and he sold it immediately

thank you for the explanation, wonderful insight into an artist's feelings and motives.
this is a purely selfish question, but have you considered keeping a wait list of folks you could make these pieces available to, or is it something about them not selling that makes the ritual important and a secondary shot at a sale not an option?

I think its amazing that an artist has no problem burning their work.
To me it shows that they are comfortable with their skills, knowing that can make another amazing work of art. I know so many artists that hold on tightly to each piece. It must be liberating knowing that the work doesn't have to live forever, whatever motivation or emotions were in the work, existed for the time they needed to and don't need to live forever.

i like the idea of burning unsold work...its a pure way to let go....
tin, congrats, all your pieces have sold out at preview for each of your shows so far!
i remember your post about not having money for the gas bill.....those days are over!!!!
some balked at the prices of the drawings at the lead show. when you see them in person, they truly are more than that. the detail is astonishing. they are well worth the price, IMO
just ask marcus!!!
mr. tin, cant wait to see what you have up your sleeve for Feb.
(ps your first print run is officially SOLD OUT too!) ;D

Just got my piece from the Lead Show and I have to say, it is fantastic!! I picked up "Time Constriction" and it is absolutely stunning in person with much more detail than I had expected.
To me, the prices at the Lead show were not much different than the G1988 show, with those pieces being $100 less but unframed. Additionally, Ally, the frame decision was a good one!!!
I cannot wait for the show in February and the upcoming print!!
Thanks TIN for the spectacular artwork that will grace our walls for years to come!! I can't wait to get more!!

the painting is so beautiful had to come back to see it!!!
tin has the prints from the lead show in his hot little hands as we speak, he is hand detailing each one with gold pencil and for all those who were lucky to get one, you should be getting an email from the gallery in the next 2 weeks or so...
we have some very very amazing surprises for his feb show. if you are interested, get on the list at black maria gallery!
