Second, Soos has created a 2nd edition of charity prints for us. These are all hand drawn and very different from the first edition. Limited to 25. View details here: www.redstarpress.com/details-36-120.html
Third, we're pleased to announce that famed Beijing graffiti artist "0528" has joined us at Red Star Press. www.redstarpress.com/artists-48-0528_.html
0528 was born in Beijing in 1978. From a young age he developed a passion for drawing, especially cartoons. In 1995 he began to experiment with paint cans thus beginning his career in the Chinese Graffiti scene. He attended school for animation but quickly became bored with the curriculum.
In 2001, after 0528 dropped out of animation school he became the graphic designer for She Hui Skateboards (www.shehuisk8.com), the first domestic Chinese skateboarding company. He has designed all of the boards and the apparel for the company. His boards are displayed in various places, from the local skate shop to the renowned Ullens Center for Contemporary Art.
In 2003, 0528 and a few friends partnered together to create Monkey Style (www.monkeystyle.com.cn), a clothing company. He wanted to create clothing for his generation and the underground scene they belong to. Monkey Style ushered in a new movement for the Chinese youth, they wear his designs and become a part of an ever-growing counter-pop culture. Monkey Style already has several famous fans such as Beijing MC Young Kin, Chinese punk rock band Reflector and China’s BMX champion A Qiang.
To this day he continues to design for She Hui Skateboards and his own company Monkey Style. In addition he finds time to paint and experiment with his signature faces.
