Gallery Provocateur is pleased to present a group exhibition of new paintings, photographs, videos and sculpture featuring new work eight esteemed local and international artists for its annual Halloween Exhibition. The exhibition focuses on the dark and surreal and highlights the work of featured artist, Wes Borland.
Wes Borland is an Oil Painter who is best known for being a rock guitarist formerly in the band Limp Bizkit and currently lead guitar for Marilyn Manson and his own project, Black Light Burns. Borland is well known for his years on stage with his eccentricity, frequently wearing elaborate face paint and black-tinted contact lenses and for his fondness of underground musical artists that differed greatly from the musical tastes of his band mates in Limp Bizkit stating the band was a destructive force in art. Delving into realism and surrealism, his work sometimes relies on dog thingyes, nudity, guns, balls, racism, and Persian rugs to make his art statement.
The exhibition also showcases the work of John Santerineross whose complex aesthetic is derived from a mix of his exposure to Catholicism and Santeria as a child and by his fascination with Greek mythology, world religions and iconography. It is his commitment, integrity, passion and dedication that cause many admirers to consider him to be one of the most influential image-makers of this generation.
Also exhibiting are celebrated surrealist fetish/smoking artist Brian M. Viveros; creepy and imaginative paintings by John Abrahamson; playfully surreal pop art by local sensation Ken Keirns (who is currently taking the west coast art scene by storm); figurative sculptural work by Claudio Setti; dark and surreal art by local master of the Halloween scene Chad Savage and local dark artist Steve Cox. Resident artist Christopher Shy will also be showing haunting new work based off his last two graphic novels. Chris has a dizzying list of credentials to his name for Marvel and Dark Horse Comics including the graphic novel for the film Pathfinder.
Artists will be in attendance at the opening reception. Costumes and creative attire encouraged.
There will also be a book signing by John Abrahamson on October 25th for two new books featuring his work including Carnivora: The Dark Art of Automobiles and Gothic Art Now.
