The newest offering from Murakami at Basel. It's a collaboration with Pharrel Williams (the hip hop star). Fiberglass, steel, LED light system, Acrylic and seven objects - including a bag of doritos, bottle of Heinz Ketchup, Pepsi can - encrusted in rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds. And already sold, for 2.8 Million Personally, not a fan of this piece.

I liked it a lot actually, but could have done without the stuff inside the mouth. Someone liked it enough to bid 2.8 million.

I liked it a lot actually, but could have done without the stuff inside the mouth. Someone liked it enough to bid 2.8 million. Two friends purchased it together and plan to share. I need some wealthier friends. . . I think it's the mouth that is putting me off - the shelf and the teeth. I really prefer the happy flower balls.

Loved the original "Superflat Monogram" video from a couple years ago.
Here is the sequel, set six years later when the girl (Aya) grows up.

Love those videos, if only the special orders for the plushies could be done outside of Japan. Superflat. Supercute!

from highsnobriety...
"Kanye West x Takashi Murakami aluminium sculpture that is currently being exhibited at the gallery Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris. They turned the Takashi Murakami bear mascot, made for one of Kanye West’s album into a gold figure"

Should be four different colorways of those bear sculptures at his upcoming show at Emmanuel Perrotin. Supposed to be a show of "Self Portraits." There's one that sounds pretty cool of him and his two sculptures - "HIROPON, Me, And My Lonesome Cowboy"

Could anyone that has received a pricelist from any of these recent exhibits or that has an idea of his current primary market prices for original work shed some light on what sort of funds are required to purchase an a painting?
Moreover, how successful have all these exhibits been? Does all this new work that has been shown as of late get snatched up quickly/immediately?
Just wondering.

The closest I saw in regards to his Emmanuel Perrotin show ( show thread here) was in this article. I don't think I qualify to receive his price lists haha. "Prices at the Paris show range from $150,000 to $2.2m and, according to Emmanuel Perrotin, virtually all the pieces were sold even before it opened."

Something he is working on for Art Basel for Emmanuel Perrotin. I don't see him in the pic though...

Saw this nice little drawing at Basel. Too bad I didn't have 60K on me at the time. Although, Tan told me I misheard and it was actually 99K!

He's interviewed by Interview Magazine www.interviewmagazine.com/art/takashi-murakami/"I'm very sad to be compared with Warhol and The Factory, because I have no drugs, you know. We have no drug culture in Japan! Maybe it’s because our attitude toward labor is totally different"

I really dislike that Pop cover. Murakami re-invents Britney as a virgin using dated Japanese graphics. So wrong in so many ways.
