Hey all, I'm new here - registered today after spending many hours checking out threads. I'm from Cheltenham, England, it's a pretty but boring place but I can't hate on it too much. I'm an artist trying to make a living, once that is possible and not so risky my plan is to eventually move to Bristol and get involved with a real art scene. If one gets curious I have a website with the majority of my art on, which is regulary updated- apmmm.com I'm glad I've finally registered here, there's alot of inspiring stuff which gets posted!

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, and tell you a little bit about why I'm here.
My interest in art started at a very young age, mostly drawing pen!ses & breasts on my sisters paper dolls, so the term "lowbrow" has always been very familiar to me. People like Jim Flora, Ed Roth, Robert Williams, Stanley Mouse, R.K. Sloane, and R. Crumb, visually stimulated me throughout my teens. Studied Warhol and Vasarely during the OP/POP movement of the late 60s early 70s. A life changing experience for me was in 1993, while I was visiting a friend in LA, I stopped by a little store/gallery on Melrose called La Luz de Jesus, I picked up a flyer printed on newsprint, announcing an event called "Kustom Kulture" at the Laguna Art Museum. The artists were Von Dutch, Ed Roth, Robert Williams plus others. At that point I realized that these illustrators/artists were now considered "legitimate" fine artists. A year later Juxtapoz magazine came out, and it was on. Those were exciting times for me, and now at the height of street art, we're in for more of those times, where art changes lives. I still have that flyer I picked up in 93.
Name: John Soldano What do you do: Co-owner of the now online gallery "TOYROOM" Why are you here: Art is my passion and I knew it from day 1... also I noticed that there is an almost even male/female ratio here, and it's not just another, testosterone, dude fest, message board. What message boards do you frequent: thegiant.org, expressobeans & here. Fave artists: Just off the top: Shepard Fairey, Chris Mars, Warhol, Victor Vasarely etc. Last piece you purchased: an og Skinner "Inglourious Basterds" How did you find this message board: I was looking for something else in an art forum, and was guided here by a fellow member of another forum.
Anyway, I'm new and have been lurking a lot and posting a little.

Hi Cherri, everything is good, and in regards to Toyrooms brick & mortar location in Sac, we closed in 08 and went totally online. Not quite as fun/exciting, but my business partner (Craig) and I are still very involved in the art scene. Hope to see ya soon, John

Hi Kim. Thought I'd share the flyer I picked up in 93. I know there is a collection thread, but here is a Ed Roth piece that's in my collection. I hung out with Ed on a few occasions always bringing him stuff to sign, which he was always very glad to do. RIP Ed

Hello Everybody! I thought I'd hold off from introducing myself until I got two stars next to my name... So you'd know I was serious :-P Name: Maggie What do you do: Admin work pays the bills currently Why are you here: I'm mainly interested in the Street art threads, as I'm not a collector (yet) and I only recently started following low brow/surrealist pop art. Also, I live in the Bay Area so I'm really interested in discussing my local scene (aritsts/galleries/murals/neighborhoods). I also have a little bit of an ulterior motive. After following other blogs like AM and the wooster collective, I decided to try my hand at running an art website (thanks for the inspiration :-D). Here it is if you'd like to check it out or if you have any advice for a newbie: gonetomorrowsf.comWhat message boards do you frequent: None others currently, any suggestions? Fave artists: El Mac and Retna collaborations are definitely at the top of my list. I also like Blu's animations that are all over the place right now. Above, Herakut, JR, Vhils, Mark Jenkins, Invader's maps. I also like a lot of old dead guys from Italy. Last piece you purchased Last Artworks I saw: Eddie Colla's "No More Excuses", Reyes "M" on Folsom, Paul Barron/Trust Your Struggle mural for Oscar Grant

Name: TEZ location: Central Coast/Sydney, Australia. What you do: Art. age: Thirty Seven. Why are you here: Love of Art, Broaden my love of art, to be informed and to Network on all things art. Other message boards: proboards virgin until now, but I'm on the Juxtapoz forum. Last piece purchased: Edition 5/5 screen print titled "Shoplifters of the World Unite" by WeBuyYourKids (a cool design duo from Sydney) www.webuyyourkids.com/site/Favorite Artists: too many to list or choose, but if you check my site you will see some obvious and maybe some not so obvious influence. I will say though, I admire artists with a lot of scope, as far as use of medium, resourcefulness and sheer cleverness to convey a particular message. How did you find this message board: Stumbled across this board somehow? and signed up initially to leave a reply to the Meggs post. What do you hope this board will become: I am not in the position to comment as I am not that up on the whole message board thing, up until now I have been more of a 'reply to blog post' type...all I can add is that this place seems cool, so I'll stick around for as long as it stays 'cool'. Personal circumstances: A provider and a dependent in the many facets of that jewel known as 'life'. You may wish to check my art out here www.skullpussy.com/ and here niceproduce.com/tez/I hope you enjoy and thanks for having me around, TEZ.
