Columbus, actually. But I'll proudly rep the MidWest like a boss! I discovered Longo waaaaay back in the Age of Dinosaurs, with his Men in the Cities series. *dusts off cobwebs*

Hey everyone. I've been around for a while but I realized I'd never posted in this thread so here goes. I'm also from Columbus, OH so the midwest ranks are growing. Name: Aaron Cooke What do you do: accountant Why are you here: find out about new artists and keep up with the ones I already love. What message boards do you frequent: Expressobeans, donewaiting, OMGposters Fave artists: Aaron Horkey, Audrey Kawasaki, Travis Louie, Malleus, Dan McCarthy Last piece you purchased: G1988 Travis Louie book/print How did you find this message board: don't remember but I got here though the gigposter scene. "discovered" amy sol and audrey kawasaki a few years ago and have gradually expanded my horizons from there. I can't afford much original art as my Aaron Horkey print addiction takes up what little spare funds I have, but I still enjoy looking and occasionally pick up prints from other artists.

Hello my name is Danielle I’m an aspiring artist, I live in New Zealand & I’m very young (only sixteen) I’ve been coming to this forum for awhile now, mostly checking out the Lowbrow pop surrealism section.
Some of my favourite artists are Audrey Kawasaki, Mark Ryden, Esao Andrews, sylvia ji, Candice Tripp, Michael Hussar, Shepard Fairey etc…
Unfortunately I don’t think I will be an incredibly active member. Since I have no collection or am not able to go to any big shows. But I thought I’d introduce myself anyway since I’ve been/& will be browsing the art forums weekly.

welcome danielle. just because you don't have a big collection or don't have shows nearby doesn't preclude you from being a member here. this is a pretty inclusive forum. get involved! what is the art scene like in NZ? is there much appreciation of this genre over there? i'd also be interested to understand how you came across lowbrow/pop surreal?

thank-you. well lowbrow isn’t very popular over here, I have yet to meet someone who actually knows what it is. But there are amazing artists who display their art in the local cafes & museums over here & I’m sure there are lots of art shows as well (a lot of them are landscapes, modern & cultural Maori art). I’m not sure I could name any of them off by heart. well all my life there has been restrictions on art & I always remember being so confined I even stoped drawing for a while. I didn’t really understand most forms of art & probably still don’t but I remember surfing the internet & coming across a piece by Audrey Kawasaki I loved her art & decided to do more research on the genre. & it was then I finally felt like my art could have a place somewhere in the art community & I’ve been drawing non-stop ever since. & I’m hoping soon I will also learn how to paint.

^I agree w/ svenman... you don't need a massive collection to be involved in these boards, and for someone that is still unable to buy alcohol in most countries, you seem to do your research and have already contributed just by answering a few questions that some of us may have about the NZ scene... I am not sure where you are in NZ, but see if you can make it to James Jeans signing and panel in the middle of this month... www.processrecess.com for details... Anyway, welcome. I think that you are going to love it here.

Hey guys and gals. Lurked here for a few weeks and thought I'd formally sign up and say hello. I recognize a few screen names from other sites I frequent, but most of the people here are new to me. Same with some of the artists, so I'm excited to learn about new things here.
Anyway, my name's steve. the screen name is a random leftover from registering at another site where i signed up thinking i'd lose interest and stop posting after a few weeks, but that was six or seven years ago so obviously both it and i have stuck around.
Probably won't post that much unless specifics are directed at me, but that doesn't mean i'm not paying attention and happy to be here. that's about it for now. later. s

Yo yo bram. As you weren't at the last big night I thought you'd dropped out of the scene. I now understand that you hadn't waxed your bikini line and couldn't go 'with bush'. See you the next girls night out, love!
