and wow!! that richter "4096 Colors" piece is beautiful. i love it. i imagine that tate show is just amazing.

...and that's for pretty poor quality piece... i don't mean to be rude, and this isn't an insult to anyone here, but i really don't think you get it. i was talking with another forum member, one that also owns tauba originals (disclosure...i have an early letter based painting) and we were both confused why everyone was either questioning, or putting this painting down. one of my thoughts was that it wasn't what everyone is used to seeing...aka, it's not a fold painting. tauba seems to do a series of works and then changes it up a bit. i've seen 3 paintings done in this cmyk spray pattern style. it's an abstract painting and tauba is known as an abstract painter. if she had done a whole show of this style, i'm sure many of you would be calling it the greatest thing since sliced bread. i'm loving that seemingly several members passed on this piece, or had it pulled out from under them, only to see it sell for such a huge amount. a true moment of personal reflection. i think it's a nice little painting. $77K or $8k. it only makes you look bad to say it's a poor quality piece. with an auction sale at this amount, obviously it isn't a "poor quality piece." i wonder if the tauba fans out there are truly interested in the work, or just interested in the fame and dollar signs.

the image of a fold is nothing new. that's for sure.
in several of your examples above, the works are full on 3d, or bordering on 3d. one of the magical aspects of tauba's fold paintings is that they're absolutely flat. she's created an illusion that's pretty fun to walk up to.
she's not inventing the wheel with this, but those wheels sure are pretty to look at.

she's openly talked about how the fold paintings are made. it's not a secret.

let me get this straight.......you're all excited about diasec mounting these?? permanently glueing tauba auerbach photos to plexi?? the hottest young artist out there, and you're going to make the call to permanently adhere plastic to the front of them. keep in mind, this is not how she frames them. please think twice about this.
i'm bringing this up because i'm hoping to one day buy these prints on the secondary market, and i'd have to think twice about buying them if this is how they were framed. i'm still quite sad that they were all sold out by the time i found out about the release (the very same day they were released, agh!!!) ((my loss))

gotta say, i kinda love that Esteban Schimpf painting. really interesting. i love a painting that changes dramatically with light. it seems this one would do that.

500 to 600 as a low end for an original seems fair to me. well, i guess it depends on just how "small" they really are. there aren't many artists out there that i feel can produce a drawing that could fit into a jar and get away with it.

very nice collection. your eye and level of taste is one that i can relate to, and one that i admire. it's rare to see a collection that i wouldn't mind living with myself. looking forward to seeing what comes your way as time passes.

the wood and marble books are digital offset prints. Only the sides are painted on those editions. really? you're standing by your "giclee" point? oh... ONLY the sides are hand made by tauba. but thank you for the crappy shoes. my feet feel much better.

tauba is on a whole other level. she's got the backing to produce the entire edition. not to sound rude, but giclee prints are (in my opinion) the lowest level of editions. well, maybe xerox is below them. these books are completely hand produced.
my comment was based on these being an edition of 10. it's not like we're dealing with 150 of them. and with tauba being red hot right now, i would presume they would sell fast, so that would negate the need to produce on demand, as the demand would hit instantly. also, couldn't this method result in a long wait for the buyer. that being, if tauba and her studio were already busy producing original works for any upcoming shows.
thanks for your comment on the giclee edition method. i do understand there can be advantages in printing only parts of the entire edition of a print.

good one, afroken! that's a beauty. my eyes can't even take it all in. i love all the painting tricks paul uses. i'm sure this is a real show stopper in person. wow.
